COVID-19 Alert

On Saturday 21st August, a slight change was made to the current restrictions in South Australia. The current guidelines have been updated and are available on the Synod website. Suicide Awareness: It's Always Time to Talk

On Thursday 9th September, Scots Church will observe its 11th year of actively sharing information, support and resources in acknowledgement of the many lives lost by suicide each year. This year the program brings with it a new focus on talking about mental health.

Who is God calling to be our next Moderator?

Nominations are now being sought for our next Moderator. An election will be held at the 2022 Synod meeting, and the new Moderator will take up the role at the 2023 Synod meeting. Nominations can be made by individuals or churches by 30 September 2021 and must go via the presbyteries.

Synod Expos Update

This Thursday, 26th August, Rev Ruth Mary Bond will record an online interview with Rev Canon Dave Male and questions will be posed by guest panellists. The theme of the expos is ‘Chasing the Wind of the Spirit.’ If you would like to submit a question to the panel please email mr@sa.uca.org.au.

Due to the cancellation of the Royal Adelaide Show there will be no Red Dove Café this year for the second year in a row. This year, the Uniting Church Fellowship and Mission Support Committee invites congregations to hold a 'Red Dove' Sunday on 5th and 12th September 2021 as a fundraiser.

Advanced Christian Leadership is a 6-week course focused on engaging with change in a pastoral context. It is designed for leaders, lay or ordained, those in ministry or preparing for ministry, who are serious about seeing real and sustained change in a congregation or community of faith.

You are invited to attend the 60th Anniversary celebrations at Tarooki, previously known as the Robe Uniting Church (Youth) Camp. Although the milestone was achieved in 2020, celebrations were postponed due to COVID. It has been decided to hold this special event this year on 14th November.

Prayer Points

This week we pray for:

  • For the people of Afghanistan during this difficult time in their country – we pray for long-term peace and safety for all
     
  • For the governments of Australia as they continue to manage the COVID-19 pandemic
     
  • For those living in fear due to the impacts of domestic and family violence, especially heightened during these times of extreme lockdowns.

 


Reflection

A gift only becomes a gift when it is received; and nothing we have to give – wealth, talents, competence, or beauty – will ever be recognised as true gifts until someone is open to accept them. This suggests that if we want others to grow we should first of all be able to recognise their gifts and be willing to receive them.
