Ingenious People

Name and position?

Peter Barr – Principal Coach and Provocateur

Tell us about your business/organisation?
Peter is the founder and visionary for Ingenius People (March 2000). He is a passionate believer that life is to be lived and experienced completely every day.

Peter has spent the last 15 years as a full-time accredited Master Coach and facilitator, working globally to challenge individuals, businesses and corporations to step up to their greatness – their corporate or individual genius. At a real and grounded level this means making the choice “being good is no longer good enough”.

Peter chooses to work with clients – either corporately or individually – who are already successful and who know in their own beings that there is so much more to be done.
Prior to coaching Peter had a successful career in the corporate arena with roles as CEO and CFO of the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia and prior to this the role Commercial Manager of a green-field coal mining operation.

Peter is (one of only 8) Board Directors and the Treasurer and Company Secretary of the International Coach Federation based in the United States.

What is your role at your organisation?
Owner – Principal Coach and Provocateur

What are your key skills and responsibilities?
To serve my exceptional business and executive clients to ensure they are fully engaged, committed and focussed on begin the best they can be, in all areas of their work and life. We are far more than the sum of our different roles and responsibilities.

I bring 15 years in Corporate, Not-for-Profit, Resources and Services industries to CFO and CEO level, combined with 16 years as a full time professional and accredited coach and facilitator/trainer to create a service that truly gets the needs, fears and passions of those I serve.

I am a Master Certified Coach with the global peek body for Coaching – the International Coach Federation. One of only 12 in Australasia. Currently serving on the global board of directors in the USA.

How many people work at your business?
Full time – just myself, with virtual assistance and a vast array of associates for referral and other services required to support my clients to be their absolute best.

What is your favourite place in the precinct?
I love hanging out at The Burrow on Mollison Street with a client or a friend enjoying excellent pizza, a cold ale and deep engaging and joyful conversation. And I do, as a cyclist, love the exceptional facilities all over Southbank for me and my children.

What do you want BSB members to know about you or your business?
In the words of a client just this morning – “You are the only person I know who understands me, my business and at the same time have the skills and experience to truly add positively to all of it. All with patience, non-judgement and trust”. I pride myself in truly being “with” my business and leadership clients in a way that serves them and their journey.

What is something people wouldn’t know about your business?
My business name Ingenius was created and designed by my clients, when, I was wanting the business name to reflect what it is we actually give as our greatest contribution to the client. After a full day of brainstorming with 6 incredibly successful clients, they all agreed that we helped them discover and live their business or personal genius. This was a difficult mantle to take on – who are we to be the experts around genius – but over time and with extensive research around the true meaning of genius, I feel very strongly that we are able to deliver on this promise for any brave soul or business who chooses the Ingenius Journey.

What has recently happened at your organisation?
We have moved into a beautiful new premises on Donkin Street West End that makes our clients feel capable of doing exceptional work. I love it.

What have you learnt lately?
That it is essential to find a balance between courageous self-promotion and humble self-awareness and impact.

What do you hope to achieve in your industry?
Great question. Simply put, to serve as many leaders and organisations to love and live their individual or organisational Genius. What is the alternative?

What inspires you?
Every client every day who bravely steps into the unknown and sees the possibility of what the world has always offered them.

What are your words of wisdom?
Love, love and love some more - Who you are, what you do, how you engage and what gift you leave with every interaction you choose.
