1. Large Salmonella outbreak sickens hundreds

Officials in Finland are investigating a Salmonella outbreak that has affected 377 children and 65 adults. Salad from Sweden is suspected to be the source.

2. Antibiotic use in animals decreasing

A report published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) says that the use of antibiotics is now lower in food-processing animals than in humans

3. UK and EU agree an extension to chilled meats derogation

Agreement has been reached to continue the supply of chilled meat preparations such as sausages to retailers in Northern Ireland. These products were due to be prohibited from this week, as per the Northern Ireland Protocol arrangement between the UK and the EU.
