Jeff Montgomery,
General Manager and Registrar-General

Message from the
Registrar-General

Tēnā koe – hello.

The government today announced that on Tuesday night we will move to Alert Level 3 for areas south of Auckland. Therefore, I have authorised that the issuing of marriage and civil union licences can resume – however, this does not mean they can immediately be used.

Areas under Alert Level 3: While weddings can occur, this is under strict conditions. Celebrants and couples must comply with all alert level rules.

Areas under Alert Level 4: Marriages cannot occur unless all parties including the witnesses and celebrant are in the same bubble (very unlikely). Contact us if you believe you should be an exception

We will notify you of any changes to the issue of marriage licences through this newsletter.

Remember – marriage licences are valid for three months. If one cannot be used due to the Alert Levels we will issue a full refund to the couple.

Please continue to always follow the advice from the government and Ministry of Health:

  • Information about COVID-19 from the Ministry of Health
  • Government advice about COVID-19 on Govt.nz

Keep safe.

Kia pai tō rā (Have a good day)
Jeff
