Bullish on the economy despite global uncertainty
While the rest of the world may look to be in shaky economy territory, Alberta and Calgary are poised for the strongest period of economic growth in the past five years.
Alberta will lead the country in GDP growth of up to 5.2 per cent this year and the city will finish things off at 3.8 per cent, according to the latest economic update from the Calgary Chamber.
“Our growth forecast hinges upon European debt containment and stability in China and the U.S.,” says Ben Brunnen, chief economist with the Calgary Chamber. “If problems in Greece escalate – all bets are off.”
Read more on these economic developments and what they mean for business in the Chamber’s updated 2012 Economic Outlook or watch a brief video summarizing this report.

Perspectives on Alberta’s First Nations consultation policy
Premier Alison Redford has signaled that one of her government’s first priorities will be to finish review of the First Nations Consultation Policy, which establishes the consultation requirements for industry when working with Aboriginal communities to develop a natural resource project.
This policy has been under review for some time and both industry and Aboriginal communities have voiced concerns over the existing guidelines.
These two groups came together during a panel discussion put on by the Calgary Chamber on June 7 to share their perspectives for successfully engaging with one another throughout this process.
