Archiball 2015 - early bird tickets available now

Archiball is the most anticipated event of the year for the architecture student community. This year, Archiball will be hosted at Alumbra. Your ticket will include unlimited refreshments at the bar as well as a selection of canapés prepared by a celebrity chef.

Please note that Archiball 2015 is an independent event run by students, for students.

An early bird ticket price of $80 (plus fee) is available until 25 July.

'Architects Do it with Models' Competition

Calling all model making SONA members – you are invited to create a product display for a SONA pop up store using Knauf Plasterboard products!

The challenge being to see how innovative you can be, by asking the question: What else is possible with Knauf plasterboard products? Show us what you can do in a 1:50 white card model.

The winning team’s model will be built at 1:1 and displayed at the Australasian Student Congress – People, held in Melbourne (2-4 July).

Architecture is about people; from the moment we are born into a room, each of us will have a distinct and personal relationship with the space around us. It is in architecture that we work and rest, it’s where we fall in love, where we protest; architecture changes behaviour, it unites and divides, provides shelter and inspiration.

We are excited to bring you a range of speakers from across four continents including Australia. Each of these is positioned to contribute a unique perspective around the theme of people through the varied lenses of their own particular practice. Speakers and program have now been released.

Applications open for 2016 Endeavour Mobility Grants

Undergraduate students are invited to apply for Endeavour Mobility funding under the Study Overseas Short-term Mobility Programme (STMP). STMP provides grants of $2000 per student to undertake study overseas that is for academic credit.

Eligible Locations
Eligible locations for undergraduate study include global locations, but exclude Asia and the Pacific.

Travel dates
Funding is for STMP projects that depart between 1 January 2016 – 31 January 2017.

Please refer to the Grants Program Guidelines to ensure your application meets the eligibility criteria. Download the University of Melbourne application form for STMP funding.

Virtual Design World Cup: Student BIM & VR and Design Contest

Registration closes: 19 June
Project submission period: 1-6 October
Prize: Total prize pool of ¥450,000, including ¥300,000 for first place.

The Virtual Design World Cup is a cloud-based international design competition for students to create innovative design using BIM/CIM & virtual reality technologies.

The theme for 2015 is the redevelopment of Keelung Station Area in Taiwan. The final submitted project is to be in the form of a script and a concept poster.

YGAP (Y Generation Against Poverty) issoon to be launching its 2015 Polished Man campaign at Ellis St Studio.

YGAP is looking to engage with talented students who can provide an urban activation for the launch event in Melbourne. This opportunity may also extend to our planned activations at Federation Square in Melbourne and, Martin Place in Sydney.

Multiplicity: the cinematic city by John Wardle Architects with writer and filmmaker Stefano Boscutti

The city as a laboratory drives this new and exciting Environments subject that investigates scientific, design, engineering and social perspectives to ask how Melbourne can be modelled as the world’s most liveable city.

Through undertaking an in depth study of the places and event spaces of dynamic Melbourne you will research, experiment and prepare a future scenario for this city under transformation.

During the subject you will be introduced to a range of digital and analogue tools that will assist in the mapping and documentation of the city leading to future strategies and/or designs.
