Vote Zakhary Mallett For BART District 7 Director!

October 15, 2016

Dear Reader:
If you are a vote-by-mail voter, chances are that you’ve already received your ballot or will receive it VERY soon.  While we have an open presidency this year, many city council races, and many state propositions and local ballot measures to vote on, don’t forget to also vote for your BART Director!

My record and priorities speak for themselves:

  • I was the only BART Director in 2013 who voted against the expensive provisions in the BART labor contracts.  My outspoken critique of these contract provisions and vote in 2013 is why BART’s unions and establishment politicians have sponsored a one-sided candidate to run against me.  But it’s also why I am the only incumbent endorsed by the East Bay Times, as well as many local leaders.

  • Even as many of my colleagues have directed BART funds towards sidebar initiatives, I have fought to use our limited funds to address BART overcrowding, cleanliness, and reliability.
  • I authored BART's affordable housing policy that requires a minimum 20% affordable units in future residential developments at BART stations.
  • I have spearheaded redevelopment efforts at the MacArthur and West Oakland BART Stations that will transform these station areas and have ensured that a community-based planning process be a key part of the planning and design of the redevelopment efforts.
  • I have moved a BART extension to Hercules further in the last two years than anyone else in the two decades prior!  I intend to keep pushing my effort to deliver a viable transit alternative to this most-congested commute corridor of the Bay Area, Interstate 80.
