IMPORTANT JOBKEEPER UPDATE

The ATO has released guidance regarding the operation of the JobKeeper scheme.

This guidance provides further detail on the previously announced measures and can be found here: https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/

Included in this guidance is information relevant to sole traders, beneficiaries of trusts, partnerships and company directors and shareholders.

If you believe you may be eligible and have not already registered your interest in JobKeeper to receive information and updates, you should do so here: https://www.ato.gov.au/Job-keeper-payment/

WHAT TO DO NOW?

1. Familiarise yourself with the ATO rules announced: https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/

2. Determine your eligibility as an employer: https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/Employers/Eligible-employers/

3. Identify eligible employees: https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/Employers/Your-eligible-employees/

4. Send the JobKeeper employee nomination notice to eligible employees to be completed and returned to you by 20/4: https://www.ato.gov.au/Forms/JobKeeper-payment---employee-nomination-notice/

5. On 20/4/20 - Apply for JobKeeper Registration: https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/Employers/Enrol-and-apply-for-the-JobKeeper-payment/

6. When confirmed as an eligible employer – ensure eligible employees have been paid at least $1,500 for each of the two pay fortnights in April.  You can backpay these amounts provided they are paid prior to the end of April.  Do not pay these amounts if your eligibility is uncertain – contact our office if this is the case.
