Statistics show that First Nations communities in Calgary are much more likely than non-Aboriginal groups to be living in poverty. How can Calgary’s business community partner together to create employment opportunities, and help alleviate poverty amongst Calgary’s urban First Nations communities?

In his first appearance in Calgary after the long awaited release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report, the Calgary Chamber in partnership with the RESOLVE Campaign are hosting National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Perry Bellegarde.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, the second most significant pillar to economic competitiveness is infrastructure. In a world where cities drive the global economy, it is more important than ever for Calgary to maintain our ability to contribute as a driving force of our economy.

While many global cities have found unique alternative sources of revenue to solve their infrastructure woes, there really isn't a "one size fits all" solution that Calgary could adopt to address its infrastructure deficit. However, we can glean some valuable takeaways from the frameworks that have worked around the world.
