ENVISION 2021

Save the date! Our annual STEM Career Day Supporting Young Women will be virtual this year on Saturday, March 20, 2021.  This event will feature keynotes from Eberly College of Science students, workshops with hands-on activities lead by Penn State scientists, and networking opportunities with STEM professionals. Students in grades 6-12 will be invited to register for the event in February. For now, we are looking for suggestions about the virtual format and time allotment.  Please complete the short survey below to help us out!

Science-U Updates

Although this is normally the time of year when summer science camps are being announced, we are delaying that announcement due to the coronavirus pandemic. As we continue to work remotely, we are looking into various options to keep our 2021 camps safe, as well as engaging.  We will  notify families of our 2021 camp schedule, the re-registration of campers from last year, and the possibility of virtual camps after February 1, 2021. Stay tuned!

Virtual Science Festival Continues!

Our Virtual Science Festival is still active and available, and the Nittany Lion is there to help navigate the website.  New activities and demonstrations are continually being added - so be sure to visit often!

Here are just a few quick and fun science demonstrations that young scientists may enjoy doing at home:

  • Crystal Growth
  • Watch the Wind
  • Cleaning Pennies

Cybersecurity Quizzes and Games

How cyber-savvy are you? In this current situation where most of our education, entertainment, and commerce is virtual, it's a good idea to keep our electronics and information secure.  The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) has provided a few games and quizzes to help improve our cybersecurity awareness. (Some of these sites require Adobe Flash to work.)

  • How cyber-savvy are you?  Take the quiz and review provided tips!
  • Online Lineup  Decide which online business to shop and which to avoid!
  • Mission: Laptop Security Agent Smith needs your help to keep his laptop safe!
  • Spam-Scam-Slam Learn to identify spam and scams with this game!
  • Invasion of the Wireless Hackers Answer questions correctly to avoid the hackers!
