The three new vegan pizzas include: the ‘Veggeroni’ topped with a plant-based pepperoni; the ‘VVQ’ (Varvecue) comes with plant-based mince, corn and BBQ sauce; and lastly the ‘Shawarma’, which is covered in plant-based shawarma chicken. Meanwhile, Domino’s UK has permanently added two vegan pizzas to their menu after successful trialling in 46 stores. The ‘Vegan Margherita’ and ‘Vegi Surprise’ are both made with vegan dough and a plant-based cheese alternative. 2. MCDONALD'S TAKE ON PHOMcDonald’s Vietnam has introduced a new Pho Burger to their menu. The brand has infused the flavour of Vietnam’s famous pho noodle soup into a burger as it features two beef patties covered with a Pho broth sauce, onion, herbs, cilantro and an egg served on an English muffin. The Pho Burger provides a new, unexpected way for consumers to enjoy this traditional favourite. 3. BUFFALO WILD WINGS' CRAZY SAUCESBuffalo Wild Wings has introduced four new wing sauces to their menu. The new Pizza Wings sauce provides a classic pizza flavour through a mix of garlic parmesan sauce, tomato powder and basil. The Carolina Reaper Blazin’ sauce features the Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper, blended with hot sauce, vinegar, red bell pepper and onion. The Orange Chicken sauce is inspired by Asian comfort food with a sweet, citrus flavour infused with cayenne peppers and soy sauce. Lastly, the Lemon Pepper sauce closely resembles the dry rub blend of lemon, black pepper and butter. 4. NETFLIX'S NEW SMOKIN' BBQ SERIESThe Emmy award-winning Netflix show, Chef’s Table, is releasing a 4-part series on BBQ this September. The series will feature four chefs from four continents to share more about cultures through this ancient cooking technique. Viewers will be told stories behind the food from farmer’s to chefs alike. Cooking with fire has been done for thousands of years yet alternative techniques have been shaped differently in each part of the world. 5. REACHING CONSCIOUS CONSUMERSSmartBrief has released a 4-part series on key consumer archetypes that are shaping the food industry today. They identify consumers as being health-conscious, adventurous, eco-conscious and comfort- and convenience-centric. Focussing on eco-conscious food consumers, plant-based options must deliver on taste, health benefits and environmental impact for substitutions without sacrifice. Effective communication of sustainable practices and proper disposal of packaging are also key to maximising eco-friendly efforts. 6. HONEST HALLOUMI BURGER RETURNSUK burger chain, Honest Burgers, has brought back one of their best performing specials from 2019. They are relaunching the Halloumi Burger in their network of over 40 restaurants for eat in, takeaway and delivery for a limited time only. The Halloumi Burger consists of Honest beef, Briddlesford Farm Dairy halloumi-style cheese, harissa mayo, smashed avocado with coriander, lemon and chilli and pink pickled onions. Served with Honest's signature rosemary salted chips, the burger costs £12.50 and a gluten-free version is also available. 7. IMPORTANCE OF VALUE AT C-STORESValue perceptions, private-label and food-to-go were some of the main points highlighted by Spar distributor, AF Blakemore, at a recent online Summit hosted by the Association of Convenience Stores. Due to lockdown restrictions, consumer behaviour has changed, and convenience stores noticed many first-time users coming into stores. With a potential recession forecasted, more customers will be watching their spend and value is going to be paramount. C-stores can drive private-label promotions as well as diversify their food-to-go offerings as people return to work and school. 8. PAPA JOHN'S WITH PARALYMPICS GBPapa John’s have announced they will become a partner for Paralympics GB team until the end of 2021. The games are set to take place in Tokyo next summer and the pizza chain will lend its support towards a fundraising target of £250,000. Papa John’s has launched a digital marketing campaign, We Are Limitless, that aims to raise awareness of how athletes can overcome any challenge. David Weir, wheelchair athlete and 8-time winner of the London Marathon along with wheelchair tennis champion, Alfie Hewett, and swimmer, Alice Tai are ambassadors involved in the campaign. 9. CELEBRITY STATUSKFC and McDonald’s are leveraging celebrity status to reach consumers in a unique way during this time. KFC has paused their slogan ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’ and is calling on celebrity “superfans” such as music artists and former Love Island contestants to help come up with a temporary tagline. McDonald’s has introduced the Travis Scott Meal in a new limited-time partnership with the rapper and record label founder. The $6 meal deal is the second time the brand is featuring a celebrity’s name on the menu, after NBA athlete, Michael Jordan in 1992.
