Issuing of burning permits

DUE to the milder weather in recent days, a ban on issuing burning permits has been temporarily relaxed. New permits to burn before 6pm will be issued based on a number of conditions. Permits are available from local Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades.

The burning of small quantities of garden rubbish after 6pm is allowed - provided the Fire Danger Rating is not at or above Very High, and the rubbish is burnt in compliance with the Shire’s 2015/16 Fire and Burning Information Booklet. More information on burning here.

Aquatic Centres set to open

SHIRE of Mundaring’s aquatic centres are almost ready to keep people cool over the hot summer months. Bilgoman Aquatic Centre in Darlington opens on Saturday 24 October and Mt Helena Aquatic Centre opens on Monday 26 October. Parents are reminded of the need to remain vigilant around water. Winners ecstatic with new bikes

FOUR local children are the proud owners of new bikes after winning a colouring competition organised by Shire of Mundaring. As part of this year’s Trek the Trail event on Sunday 20 September, children had the chance to enter a colouring competition.

Shire President Helen Dullard said Jack Smith (5), Ryley McAuliffe (10), Nuala Walton (11) and Karla Eaves (8) were the winners selected by Mundaring Arts Centre. The bikes were donated by Mundaring Community Bank® Branch Bendigo Bank. Read more here.

Local Government Elections

REGISTERED voters in the South and Central wards can still make your vote in the upcoming Local Government Elections count. There is one vacancy in the South ward, and two vacancies in the Central ward. Local Government Elections will be held on 17 October. Postal vote packages must be returned by 6pm on Saturday. Packages can be returned to Shire offices during regular opening hours, or on Saturday. Nesting box program success

MORE than half of the nesting boxes installed by Shire of Mundaring as part of fire recovery have shown signs of use. Earlier this year, 36 nesting boxes were installed on reserves impacted by Parkerville, Stoneville, Mt Helena Bushfire in January 2014.

Last week the boxes were checked for signs of use by Environmental Biologist Simon Cherriman, with 19 showing signs of use. Read more here.

Tender awarded for Mundaring recreation centre

THE Mundaring Indoor Recreation Centre is one step closer, after a tender was awarded for the project last month. At Shire of Mundaring’s Council meeting on Tuesday 8 September, Pindan Pty Ltd was awarded the tender for the design and construction of the Centre. The $10.1million infrastructure project is one of four major projects in the Shire. For more information click here.

Bus shelter gets colourful new design

A BUS shelter in Darlington is sporting a colourful new look after receiving a makeover by FUSION Project participants.

On Wednesday 23 September, artists Dan Duggan and Bruno Booth assisted a group of young men with the makeover on the shelter near Shire of Mundaring’s Bilgoman Aquatic Centre. Read more here.

Special Meetings of Council

A swearing in ceremony for elected members will be held on Monday 19 October 2015 commencing at 6pm. Immediately following this ceremony, a Special Meeting of Council will be held to elect the Shire President and Deputy Shire President.

A Special Meeting of Council to appoint members to committees will
be held on Wednesday 21 October 2015 commencing at 6.30pm.
The swearing in ceremony and both Special Meetings will be held in
the Council Chambers at the Shire’s Administration Building, 7000
Great Eastern Highway, Mundaring.

Children get on the trail to learn about native animals

STUDENTS at a local primary school learnt about several native animals last month when they participated in an environmental activity run by Shire of Mundaring.

Wooroloo Primary School participated in the Fauna Activity Trail, which is part of the Shire’s Green Spot Program to educate drivers about native animals on local roads. Read more here.
