Series 2: Leveraging Data to Create Efficient and Effective Information Analysis

Leaders across all health services today are continuously challenged to reduce costs and improve performance. A key capability necessary to support these efforts is access to timely, accurate and detailed data across the organisation.

The next paper in our PBRC information series looks at leveraging data to create efficient and effective analysis. It details reporting system essentials, the power of dashboards and includes a case study on leveraging dashboard functionality at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. READ MORE >>>

Agile Decision Making via the Info-Gestion project in Quebec

The Info-Gestion project is an information tool built by PowerHealth to allow quick capacity analysis and support agile decision making. Implemented in Quebec’s health and social services network in order to fulfil a specific management need expressed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), this centralised database makes it possible to quickly access information about the capacity of available hospital beds, especially with regards to critical care, and to identify beds in “hot” zones. Information is updated on a daily basis and accessible via a dashboard.

Decision makers now have a province-wide picture that will help them make informed management decisions during peak periods, such as what was experienced with the COVID-19 pandemic. Info-Gestion is the first database to automatically collect information on bed management in hospital settings in Quebec. Previously, this collection was done manually and each institution was responsible for submitting its data to the Ministry, leading to a huge diversity of information systems and input practices, and revealing the necessity of standardising them to streamline processing.  READ MORE>>>>

PPM Benchmarking Portal

Three years ago, at the request of a number of our Victorian clients, PowerHealth developed benchmarking capability. This created the opportunity for those involved to share timely comparative data, with the target of better understanding and moving towards best practice.

The data acts as an information management tool to highlight areas where a health service is cost inefficient compared to other members. The detailed encounter level data available allows the costing staff to drill into the cost buckets causing the increased cost.

At our recent user group PowerHealth presented enhanced visuals (a suite of new graphs and reports) which were well received by all to support simplifying the analysis process and making informed decisions.

Why it is important to follow up on patient complaints?

The patient experience is one of the most important parts of healthcare. Making it the best part is an ongoing process that requires humility, dedication, constant improvement, and above all listening with intention. By gathering hospital patient feedback and using it in constructive ways to improve all aspects of the care experience, your organisation can be a trusted resource for patients, their families and the community.

In our article, ‘Why it is important to follow up on patient complaints’ our TPSC Cloud Safety and Quality team discuss why patient feedback should be sought, managed, and the tools available to assist this process. READ MORE>>>
