October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) and ASUM is proud to join international ultrasound societies to promote awareness of the importance of medical ultrasound across all aspects of healthcare. As the Society’s mission is Promoting Ultrasound Excellence, we are delighted to celebrate MUAM by launching the inaugural virtual issue of AJUM highlighting our multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis of medical conditions using ultrasound for improved patient care.
As ultrasound technology evolves and is utilised by so many experts, from sonographers, radiologists, cardiologists, vascular or O&G specialists, emergency physicians, intensivists, rheumatologists, midwives, physiotherapists and many more, this virtual issue showcases the high-quality ultrasound research in all areas of medicine.
As editors of this first virtual issue of AJUM celebrating MUAM, we hope that readers enjoy the diversity of the selected articles that reflects ultrasound practice in Australia and contributes to Promoting Ultrasound Excellence.

Outreach opportunities come in many forms and last Friday evening ASUM Outreach, along with our amazing volunteers Dr Meera Mani and Samantha Thomas, supported the Macquarie University Global Health Society skills night.
The focus for the event was Global Maternal and Newborn clinical skills providing medical students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and gain greater insight into maternal and newborn health issues.

The ASUM volunteers led the ultrasound workstations highlighting the important role of ultrasound in patient care. As part of the event, attendees assembled birthing kits to support a safe and clean birth, with kits to be distributed to developing countries via Birthing Kit Foundation Australia.
Congratulations to a successful evening and thank you to Dr Meera Mani, Samantha Thomas and A/Prof Fred Joshua for your support of this event. Thank you also to Philips for providing the Lumify for the event.
