We are most fortunate to have Mrs Carlyn Dyer working with our community to facilitate conversations where we hear the voice of all our community members. Tomorrow there are opportunities at 9.00am, 1.30pm and 6.00pm to participate. We will be meeting in the Multi-Purpose Area, see you there. Next week is National Reconciliation Week, this is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements. The dates for National Reconciliation Week commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Should you or your family wish to learn more about our history the following links may help https://www.reconciliation.org.au or http://www.natsicc.org.au. Catholic Education WA has the Transforming Lives Strategy with targets of increasing Aboriginal students and staff in our schools, increasing achievement standards for Aboriginal students and increasing the cultural awareness of all our Catholic community members. We will do our small part next week to further our cultural awareness and invite you and your families to join us. This year we have begun school prayer assemblies, assemblies, meeting and large gatherings with a verbal Acknowledgement to Country. An acknowledgement to Country is a way that all people can demonstrate respect for Aboriginal protocols and can be performed by anyone who is not a traditional custodian of the land. This is one way Our Lady of Grace School community can contribute to respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. I have had a lot of feedback from community members who are pleased that we are acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is situated, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We continue our reconciliation journey through faith, knowledge and wisdom next Monday morning by celebrating the beginning of Reconciliation Week. Year 5 B will be leading our school community in a Reconciliation Prayer. Our Year 6 Leaders will then raise the Aboriginal flag as part of the three flags; Australian, school and the Aboriginal flag flying in our school. This year the Semester Reports provided to parents twice a year will be online. This paperless model will be a more accessible and streamlined process and will save significant resources. Parents will be invited to meet with their teacher to discuss the report if they choose to do so or the teacher requests it. Soon, you will be receiving an email from SEQTA, explaining how to log in and create your account. This email will also explain the system being used and will answer any common questions you may ask. Please keep an eye on your incoming mail and check your junk mail as well, just in case. A letter explaining the process in full will be sent through flexi buzz early next week. There will always be the capacity for the school to provide paper reports for those families without online accesss. Thank you to those parents and grandparents who have been respectful of our place in the community and are using the many parking bays to drop off and pick up children from school. Please do not park in surrounding streets as I am receiving complaints from residents about the parking. The Stirling Shire have been informed regarding the parking issues and the impact on our neighbours. It’s not a bad idea to stagger the time that you arrive to drop and pick up children the rush lasts for a short time. Please be aware that students are not supervised in the morning before 8.15am. Children who arrive on site prior to 8.15am are invited to sit on the benches outside administration. Gabrielle Doyle This week's assembly is presented by students in 1G. Parents of 1G children are invited to the staff room after assembly for a cup of tea or coffee with Mrs Silvana Kufner. Library Roster School Photos: Week five is school photo week. This year we are going to use an online payment system. You will receive a flyer which details how to pay through the Kapture website and you can book your sibling photos at the same time, all the information is on the flyer being sent home with your child. Students need to wear full school formal winter uniform for these photos. Please ensure hair cuts and hair styles are appropriate. Rhyme Time Teresa Wandek Italian Day - Republic Day, also known as Festa della Repubblica, is a National holiday in Italy on June 2nd each year. It celebrates the day when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy in 1946 so their country could become a Republic. We will be celebrating this day on Wednesday 29th May. The children will be able to wear free dress to school on this day, dressing in the Italian colours: green (verde), white (bianco) and red (rosso) or light blue (azzurro), the colour of the national football team. Children will be able to purchase a slab of pizza, drink and a fro-yo combo for $6.50, arancini, drink and fro-yo combo for $7.50 or gluten free pizza, drink and fro-yo combo for $8.50 for lunch on the day. Orders need to be in to the canteen by Wednesday 22nd May for puchasing reasons. Orders can be completed online at https://quickcliq.com.au/. If your child's order does not go through and they have no lunch, we will supply them with a sandwich. We will no longer have additional items available due to food wastage costs.
