Kickstart SchemeKickstart is a new £2bn scheme as part of the national ‘plan for jobs’ focusing on young people aged 16-24. It's set to start this autumn and puts young people at the forefront to help improve their employability. Young people are usually among the worst hit in a financial crisis and unemployment can have longstanding implications for their future. Around 700,000 young people will have left education this year with roughly 1.6 million young people currently furloughed and 250,000 under-25 s claiming unemployment since March. The Kickstart scheme will provide a 25 hours per week, six-month placement for those 16–24 year olds currently claiming Universal Credit. You can find out more about the Kickstart scheme. Incentives for employersThe government is offering various incentives to help businesses during the recovery process to help get them back on track. Here are links to some of the incentives that you can apply for including; apprenticeships, traineeships and the Kickstart programme. The incentives are designed to encourage companies to employ younger people who are also keen to learn on the job. You can find out more about the incentives that are available here. Learn how to install and review a variety of apps using QR codes and Survey Monkey. The idea behind this programme is to help women to see how apps can be used in everyday work, health, finances and leisure. This community organisation works across Hampshire to provide a variety of support activities for adults, children and families. They are a not-for-profit organisation that is proactive and reactive to the needs of the communities that they serve. • I.T. EBP South Returns to Schools in SouthamptonEBP South staff were excited to return to schools at the beginning of the month delivering careers guidance to young people in Southampton and across Hampshire. Emma Bagnall, EBP South Careers Practitioner (pictured below) said: ‘It is fantastic to be back in school seeing the students face to face. Undoubtedly the lockdown period has impacted our young people. For some this period has been a significant challenge.' This academic term EBP South is delivering, with business support, the Employer Engagement Project which links real life work scenarios to the curriculum. EBP South’s Project Team are excited to be working on the virtual employer events which will launch in 2021 including STEM events and looking at new virtual employability skill events that businesses can engage with.
