Traveling Solo with OLLI at Pitt
|
|
Apprehensive about traveling by yourself on an OLLI-sponsored trip? Well, don’t be!
To begin with, OLLI trips (just like OLLI courses) generally include single folks, so it’s highly unlikely you would be the only solo participant. Secondly, OLLI travelers tend to be friendly and inclusive. Most everyone on an OLLI trip enjoys each other's company and shares all types of travel experiences, no matter if you are part of a couple, friend group, or a solo traveler.
Unless you prefer to keep to yourself — and that’s perfectly OK — you’re likely to make new friends during a Pitt OLLI trip, as Kathie Nelson did during last fall’s “Painted Canyons of the West” tour of U.S. National Parks. “I met a woman from Texas whom I’ve ended up corresponding with regularly, and she has since visited me and other Pittsburghers,” says Nelson, a member of OLLI’s travel committee. “We are already making plans for another trip together.”
Nelson adds: “I have enjoyed traveling solo with my own hotel room to retreat to, as desired. I like to be on my own some of the time, exploring new areas of a city by myself at my own pace.”
Solo, oui. Alone, non! (getting ready for OLLI's Highlights of France trip!)
