COVID-19 update for teaching staff

Kia ora koutou

Thank you again for all your incredible mahi to date in both shifting the vast majority of our courses online, and ensuring that teaching and learning practices remain seamless. We’ve received some very positive feedback from students who are responding really well to the complex and unprecedented challenges this situation has thrown at us.

As you’re aware, we’re continuing to plan for further online delivery of our courses post the mid-semester break, and are waiting to get further direction on our Alert Level status from the Government on Monday before making any further decisions. In the meantime, we’re doing detailed planning now on how to manage our facilities for teaching in an Alert Level 3 environment, further to the activities laid out by the Prime Minister in her announcement yesterday.

Thanks to those teaching staff who have submitted their course-by-course data. If you are in ‘Impact Level 1 or 2’, please continue with planning for online delivery. If you are in ‘Impact Level 3 or 4’, Te Puna Ako and Te Korowai Kahurangi will be in touch with you after Monday’s Government decision to plan what we can and cannot achieve across these more complex, practically-based courses. We’ll need your prompt response on this as we need to be prepared for a return to campus for a limited number of courses, under strict rules as outlined yesterday in the Prime Minister’s return to Alert Level 3 scenarios. You will appreciate that timetables and access to facilities may be in very high demand during this time.

All Phase 2 Online Course Plans must be ready and available for our students by Friday 24 April. If you need support to achieve this, or have any questions, please liaise with your Te Puna Ako Liaison, APM or Programme Co-ordinator so we are ready to show our students what their learning and assessments will look like during the month of May.

We appreciate all that you’re doing to prioritise the needs of our students and ensure any disruption to their studies is minimised. These are challenging times for everyone, and your commitment and dedication to your students and your profession has been exemplary.

Ngā mihi
