BUSY being busy with National Youth Week

National Youth Week kicked off on 5 April as the largest celebration of young people in Australia, with thousands of youth aged 12-25 getting involved to promote the "Be Active. Be Happy. Be You" motto in their communities.

Having recently celebrated National Youth Week, we feel it's a great time to reflect on the commitment BUSY At Work has to positive social change, as profits are used to support a wide range of community projects currently being delivered in Queensland.

Shardae finds employment on Gold Coast

Shardae Gerrade was a participant of the Get BUSY For Work course in 2012 and has since obtained a position as a receptionist at a business in Southport on the Gold Coast.

Shardae initially had her heart set on obtaining a panel beating apprenticeship as this has been a passion of hers for some time, however due to limited opportunities in this type of position she struggled to find employment. Shardae is now employed in her industry of passion and is one step closer to stepping into her dream career.

 

Busy Beat Readies Trainees for the Workforce

Ipswich’s Busy Beat Café is assisting school-based trainees to work towards qualifications which will assist them with future employment.

Busy Beat currently employs four school-based trainees who each work within the café on different days of the week. All four of the trainees are working towards a Certificate III in Hospitality while continuing their secondary schooling. Sam is one of these trainees who is benefiting from gaining on-the-job experience.

 

BUSY working with Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth

Busy Beat in Southport is supporting Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth (GCPHY) participants to transition into the workforce or further education and training.

GCPHY have three residential facilities on the Gold Coast and also a Mobile Support component that supports young people to sustain independent living. As part of the process, clients are encouraged to engage in a training course or actively apply for employment and are given assistance by staff at Busy Beat in the process.

 

Nutrition Australia students demonstrate affordable options for young job seekers

Good nutrition is vital to achieving holistic wellness and BUSY At Work's R U BUSY? program ensures participants learn how to make meals that are not only healthy but affordable to.

Participants were recently given an educational and interactive cooking demonstration conducted by students at Nutrition Australia Brisbane to make sure they learnt how to make healthy meals.
