Students that joined us in the fall with virtually no English were able to eloquently explain in English their progress in academic and interest based subjects. More than one parent left the conferences with tears of joy streaming down their faces as they realized just how much their children had grown. Although the kids were the stars of the conferences, we owe a huge thank you to their teachers for instructing them on how to plan and present their learning in a coherent way. I'm already looking forward to SLC 2020! This week you do not want to miss Alice in Wonderland, presented by the students of TIS. Our musical productions have become things of legend within Tirana with Suessical in 2017 and Aladdin in 2018 being highlights of the year for many families. Get your tickets now for Alice by clicking here. Remember that tickets are free, but you should only reserve as many as you need as we could run low if people grab too many. See you at the show! Looking Forward, Robert S. Jackson, Director Click HERE to get your tickets for the show. The 12 Year Old class has been learning a repertoire with different dynamic, bow speed and rhythm. The repertoire is by classical and romantic composers, Bach, Mozart, and Weber. Their ability continues to grow each day. Scholastic Book Order The TIS Scholastic book order is open between now and April 12. Please feel free to go to our site HERE, pick out some books and order them. The books will be delivered to the school and we will distribute them when they arrive. It could not be easier! We should receive all books by the beginning of May so that you will have them for the summer months away from school. The 9 year old class enjoys an outdoor classroom on a fresh sunny day. They are all happy, engaged, and alert. Ah, yes, spring is here! The Dragonflies are invited to explore measurements at the math center this week. Lots of discussions and discoveries are taking place, which leads to other learning opportunities, such as creating patterns. Pre-Introductory Spanish students this unit had a lot of fun learning about fruits, vegetables and other foods. In the end we celebrate by dancing and singing "El baile de las frutas." In Literacy, 11 Year Olds did a novel study of the book Walk Two Moons. One of the TSWs of the unit was to do context research on aspects of the novel's setting and plot. Students did research on places such as the Badlands, Mount Rushmore and Old Faithful, as well as other topics mentioned in the book such as the water moccasin and Pandora's Box. Students made Google slideshows and shared their findings. They did a great job! Peer-reviewed Journal Articles In library, 11-year-old students have been learning about peer-reviewed journal articles. They examined the process of how an article is reviewed by experts of the field who access the quality of articles and determine if it meets the criteria to whether submit it for publication in a scholarly journal or, reject it. Literature II Class Reads Pygmalion Pygmalion is a timeless classic by Bernard Shaw. Also known as My Fair Lady, this play takes the students back one hundred years ago when proper English pronunciation distinguished upper classes from the rest of the British population. Literature II students appreciate Shaw’s sense of humor and style as they read and act out scenes from this play. Everyone wants to know, will professor Higgins fall in love with Eliza by the end of the play? But, perhaps, a better question is whether Eliza will fall in love with him. We have a new website where you can look through the items and see if you find anything that belongs to you. |
