Michael Banks at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art, Sanford, FL

February 16 – March 10, 2019

Alabama native son, Michael Banks, makes a guest appearance at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art in Historic Downtown Sanford for the opening reception of his latest collection of work, Chromophobia.

Exhumed from the box of traditional material, Banks utilises liquid tar, knives, and found wood to create fervent compositions. Wilted flowers, descending angels, a piercing gaze and the reoccurring Anubis-like creature are frequent sights in the world of Michael Banks. Mortality and rising hopes are recurrent motifs.

Raw Vision Short Film Competition

We received many entries for our short film competition and our judges are going through entries now, with the winner being announced next month.

Below is John Grod, Jennifer Mannebach and Frank Tumino's entry.

Wayne Mazurek is intensely interested in cars, space travel, boats –indeed all forms of transportation, creating artwork exclusively devoted to those topics.

Fast and capable of creating easily perceived details, permanent markers are his medium of choice. His style is straight forward and lucid, the better to show off his "concepts" that each of his depictions represent. And make no mistake, each of Wayne's pieces begins with a concept. When talking about his creations Wayne uses sentences that begin with phrases like, "What if there was a car that could..." or, "No one's seen a car with..." He then proceeds to point out details in his current work that you might otherwise have missed, which really do represent a breakthrough in car design.

Check out the rest of the film entries here.
