Let's PLAY!...PLAY isn't just a pastime; it's the very essence of human development. It's how we learn, connect, and grow. This multifaceted concept encompasses everything from structured games to spontaneous bursts of creativity. Let's break it down with a wonderful acronym: P = People: PLAY brings us together, strengthening bonds and creating unforgettable moments with friends, family, and even strangers. L = Love: At its core, PLAY is a celebration of what brings us joy. Whether it's a beloved hobby or a thrilling game, love infuses every playful moment with passion and excitement. A = Anywhere: PLAY knows no boundaries. It can happen in the comfort of our homes, amidst the beauty of nature, or even in the bustling streets of a city. Wherever we are, there's always room for play. Y = Yes: Embrace the power of 'Yes'. Saying yes to new experiences and challenges opens doors to endless possibilities. It's an invitation to seek adventure and discovery. No matter the circumstances, PLAY offers a pathway to happiness and connection. So, as we step into June and beyond, let's make a commitment to infuse every moment with the spirit of PLAY!
Making Stuff!... This month in our latest Just Meee podcast we are joined by Robert Rasmussen, one of life’s true sages. Here, Robert tells us the important role that play has made in his life: “We all know that children learn and explore personal limitations and boundaries through play, and we also know—through breakthroughs in neuroscience—that we continue to learn and grow throughout our lives. Yet teachers, parents, cultural and work expectations have conditioned us from a very early age to believe that work and play are opposites. Like oil and water, the two do not easily mix. Play and work are not opposite. Twenty years of experience with LEGO SERIOUS PLAY® have shown me they do mix - indeed very well. Play is about PROCESS and work is about RESULT. But we get much faster and more enjoyable to the result, when we play as a way of getting to the results. Play is NOT frivolous. It is play with a PURPOSE. Play in this context is: Brilliant! Thank you Robert.x
LAUGH... In 'Meee In A Minute', Chapter 28 titled 'LAUGH', Sid draws a fascinating comparison between the laughter of children and adults. Did you know that on average, a four-year-old laughs around 200-300 times a day, while an adult laughs only 12-15 times? It's quite a striking difference! Children effortlessly find joy in play—they create stories, act out adventures, sing, and dance, all with uninhibited spontaneity. Their play is not just fun; it's how they engage with and understand the world around them. Research underscores the significance of playfulness in enhancing our overall well-being and maximising life's experiences. So, Take a minute™ to reflect on the last time you laughed or engaged in play. Discover what brings you joy and incorporate more of it into your daily life. Laugh a little, play a little, and enjoy the simple pleasures that bring lightness to your days.
When Are You Too Old To Play?... Never! George Bernard Shaw once said, “We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing”. It's a quote that resonates deeply and serves as a gentle nudge to remember the joy of play at any age. As children, play is woven into the fabric of our existence, infusing each moment with boundless energy and creativity. Yet, as we mature, the weight of responsibilities often dims the light of playfulness. Fortunately, I'm blessed with three young children, ages 7, 6, and 4, who remind me daily of the magic of play. Amidst the challenges of parenthood, it's crucial to resist the temptation to solely focus on practicalities and instead immerse ourselves in the laughter and spontaneity of playtime. Recently, I read about the passing of Brian Griffin, a remarkable photographer whose work celebrated the essence of play. Through his lens, ordinary moments were transformed into extraordinary scenes, serving as a poignant reminder of the vitality of playfulness in a world often overshadowed by seriousness. Let's take a moment to honour the legacy of Brian Griffin and embrace the joy of play in our own lives. Thank you Brian. xxx
