Red Hat Society ladies attend Council's meeting on February 4

Ladies from the Red Hat Society enjoyed an outing to Council's general meeting on February 4. Residents are welcome to attend meetings from 9am at 101 Goondoon Street, Gladstone. Upcoming meeting dates are February 18 and March 4 and 18. Visit Council's website for 2014 meeting dates.

Euleilah Creek Bridge works under way

Repair works to Euleilah Creek Bridge on Hills Road, Euleilah, started this week and motorists are reminded to expect traffic disruptions between 6am and 6pm. The bridge is only open for 10 minutes on the hour with exceptions for the school bus and emergency services. The bridge will return to normal operations each day after 6pm and will be open all day on Sundays. Work updates are available on Council's website.

Minor delays as works occur

Works on behalf of Council to install traffic count equipment may cause minor delays in two Gladstone areas from February 11 to 14. Disruptions are likely on Toolooa Street (about 80m north of Bonar Street) from 9am to 2.30pm and on Kirkwood Road, between Dixon Road and Lavender Boulevard, from 7am to 4pm.

Motorists should anticipate lane closures, reduced speed limits and traffic control workers. All efforts will be made to minimise noise associated with machinery operations. Queries should be directed to Trafflec project manager Craig Brodrick on 0407 131 593.

Volunteers needed for Agnes Blues and Roots

The 2014 Agnes Water Blues and Roots Festival is back with an extra day, more bands and more stages. The festival kicks off at 4pm on Thursday, February 27 and runs until Sunday afternoon, March 2. The festival experience gets better and better each year but it needs your help.

Volunteers are needed to work at the bar, issue wrist bands and programs at the main gate and help with the set up and pull down. Volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to the festival on the day of their shift and discounted tickets to the festival on the days they don't work. Clean Up Australia Day

Get involved with Clean Up Australia Day on March 2 and help rid our parks, creeks, beaches and neighbourhoods of rubbish. If everyone in the region picked up just one piece of rubbish that would remove tens of thousands of pieces of waste in one day.

Residents can help by either organising a site that is in need of a Clean Up, volunteer to help at an existing site or assist through the placement of skip bins and ute pick up services. CouncillorConnect continues in 2014

Do you have a question for Council? Join your elected members for a cuppa and chat at a CouncillorConnect visit near you on the last Thursday of the month, starting February 27. Councillors meet with residents over morning tea from 9.30am to 10.15am followed by pre-booked 20 minute appointments between 10.15am and noon. Visits are scheduled for Mount Larcom QCWA Hall, Miriam Vale QCWA Hall and Agnes Water Community Centre.

Councillors are also expanding their Councillor Booth sessions this year, alternating between Calliope, Tannum Sands and Boyne Island shopping centres. Catch up with Councillors on February 27 outside Calliope IGA, Calliope Shopping Centre, from 9.30am to noon. Apply now for leadership program

If you are interested in furthering your leadership skills or have an employee that could help drive your future business needs then this program is for you. Council, in partnership with Leadership Management Australasia (LMA), will again offer "The Challenge of Leadership" 11-month program.

Due to commence on March 21, the program offers one fully funded placement for a non-Council employee living and working in the region. Applications close on March 5. An information session will be held on February 20 for those interested. For more information or to apply visit Council's website.

Fitness in the Park

Council has partnered with Dreamfit Professional Services to offer FREE introductory Fitness Station sessions around the region. All sessions will run for approximately one hour and will be conducted by a fully qualified trainer. Residents can opt to attend one or all sessions; however bookings are essential as there are only a limited number of spaces. For more information visit Council's website.

Have your say

The region's natural gas industry is the focus of a new study into community attitudes. Researches from the Australian National University and CSIRO are working with Council to study the effects of the gas boom on the region. If you would like to share your thoughts on how these developments have impacted the region simply fill out the online survey by the end of February.

Exhibitions launch on Valentine's Day

Join the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum this Valentine's Day as they launch two local history exhibitions. 'Getting Started: Colony of North Australia 1847' and 'Profiling a Collector: William (Bill) Golding "Mr Gladstone" (1890 - 1985)' will be officially opened by Mayor Gail Sellers at 10.30am on February 14. The annual 'Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition' exhibition will also be welcomed that morning. RSVP by 5pm February 11 on 4976 6766 or email.
