ABP building access

In order to access the Melbourne School of Design building and/or the Baldwin Spencer building outside of normal business hours, students must read and acknowledge the terms and conditions set out on the Building Induction web page.

Please note that access may take up to two working days to be activated.

Locker rental

Lockers are available on levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the MSD building.
Three locker sizes are available for hire: small, medium and large. Large lockers are available exclusively to students enrolled in subjects that require model making.

The locker lease period in 2015 covers the academic year of the University of Melbourne beginning Week 1, Semester 1, and extending to the conclusion of the Semester 2 examination period.

2015 Graduate Ambassador Program

The MSD is looking for friendly and enthusiastic master's students willing to share their experiences of studying at Melbourne through the MSD Graduate Ambassador Program. Ambassadors will participate in a range of activities to help promote the disciplines of the built environment by giving a first-hand student’s perspective of the MSD to stakeholders such as future students, alumni and industry partners.

GAP (Global Architecture Profiling) showcases the work of contemporary and emerging architects each year in different urban locations around the world.

This year, GAP profiles Seoul, capital of South Korea, a rapidly expanding city that has become an increasing cultural force. The practices showcased this year demonstrate the diverse historical complexity and layering of the city, the city of nature and of the artificial, the city as an area of ‘conflict’ and experimentation, the city of dynamic activity and the city of the everyday.

Register now for the Peer Mentoring Program

The MSD Peer Mentoring Program is an opportunity for new students to get in touch with later-year MSD students, ask questions and share your experiences of navigating through the first few weeks of the start of your degree.

The program includes a welcome lunch in where you will meet later-year students as well as your fellow cohort. You will be put in touch with a designated peer mentor who will be a contact on campus for you over the coming weeks.

ABPL90149 Contemporary Digital Practice

Join this masters-level elective if you want to know more about digital practice.

This subject has repeatedly scored high with students (SES around 4.4) as it gives you a comprehensive introduction to the way practices use digital tools to advance their design, engineering and construction of projects.

ABP Senior Lecturer Dominik Holzer complements his industry knowledge with those of guest speakers who join class throughout the semester. In taking this subject you will get exposed to what's out there in the industry and inform your own critical view on digital practice.

SONA is the Student Organised Network of Architects; the student branch of the Institute of Architects. We are your link to the profession. ISPT work experience opportunity

ISPT’s 2015 Work Experience Program is seeking applications from property students. 

The program is suitable for first year 200-point Master of Property or second year 300-point Master of Property students.

Students will receive valuable, paid work experience within a number of areas across our business, including:
• Property Investment Management (Office, Retail, Industrial)
• Project and Development Management
• Property Management
• Portfolio Valuation and Performance
• Research, Strategy and Capital Market

The program offers up to two rotational roles over a 26-week period (April-October), working three days per week based in ISPT's Melbourne office, with flexibility offered to accommodate study requirements.

International Summer Program in Architecture: Cities in Asia

This accredited HKU course focuses on the urgent architectural and urban issues confronting Asian cities today.

The International Summer Programme in Architecture this year strategically links the cities of Hong Kong, Seoul, and Singapore.

The program welcomes all undergraduate & graduate students, and recent graduates in the disciplines of architecture, landscape, urban design & urban studies, especially those who are keen to learn about the rapid urban development of Asian cities.

10th International Design Award: Furniture design competition

Competition prize value: € 2,000 and travel to Germany
Submission deadline: Sunday 1 March 2015

The 10th International Design Award is currently accepting submissions. Let your imagination run free, leave existing paths of thinking and create a future-oriented, innovative and unique furniture solution.

Three winners will each receive a cash prize of € 2,000, an International Design Award trophy and a trip to Germany with travel and accommodation expenses born by Hettich and REHAU.

Participation is open to students. Entries can be submitted by individuals or teams.

CINECITY 2015 Architecture Film Project: one-minute film competition

Submission due date: Monday 23 March 2015

CINECITY 2015 is seeking budding architects and film makers to produce a 1 minute film for this year’s event. This competition is an exciting opportunity for you to put your name before leaders of architecture and the built environments.

In the past, selected films by our judges were screened as a fringe event of the National Architecture Conference in Federation Square Melbourne (2013) and the State Theatre in Perth (2014). Subsequently the films were re-screened at a number of other film festivals in Australia, Lisbon and Chile.
