Shift the narrative on the climate crisis - climate justice demands it

At the close of the World Economic Forum’s annual get together in Davos at the end of January, a few young climate activists posed for a photo. Shortly after, the photo was published by the Associated Press, but not the whole photo - Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate was cropped out - leading to outrage by many across the world. 

This is a stark reminder of how those on the front line of the climate crisis can be pushed to the side lines and why the mainstream narrative on the issue needs to change. We think the UN Climate talks coming to Glasgow in November presents an opportunity to do just that here in Scotland.

Alliance Conference 2020: The climate crisis from the front line

Save the date for the biggest event of the year for Scotland’s international development community – the Alliance Annual Conference. Taking place at BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Thursday 24th September, our 2020 event promises to be our biggest and most ambitious yet.

At our members’ request, the climate crisis will provide this year’s overarching theme – an issue which affects all of us, but is particularly hard-hitting for the people and communities that have done least to cause it.

The future of DFID - an open letter to the Prime Minister

At the start of January, Alliance CEO Jane Salmonson wrote about why a possible merger between the Department for International Development and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office would be bad news all round.

On Thursday 16 January 2020, MSPs debated the Oxfam-UWS Report 'On Target for 2030?', an independent snapshot review of Scotland's progress against the UN Sustainable Development Goals, for which the Alliance authored the chapter on Goal 17 'Partnership for the Goals'.
