Thursday 27 June 2019 WelcomeWelcome to our mid-year newsletter and what a busy six months it's been! The highlight for the PowerHealth team was our biennial User Conference held in Melbourne in May (check out the details below). It was fantastic to have the opportunity to share, learn and connect with our PowerHealth community. The second half of the year is not looking to slow down, and we can’t wait to see what exciting outcomes it may bring – stay tuned… 2019 User Conference Wrap-UpThank you to the PowerHealth user community, attendees, speakers and our PowerHealth team for your valued contribution to our 2019 User Conference. The conference sold out this year and we wanted to thank everyone for their fantastic support. Proactive Health Management was our theme and our varied line-up of speakers certainly encouraged this mindset. Just some of the highlights included:
We’re delighted with the feedback we’ve received, which overwhelmingly acknowledged the quality of our guest speakers. Our conference attendees have been sent a link to the Conference presentations, to help them recap and innovate within their workplaces. Please let us know if you haven’t received this email. Wake Up to the Truth About SleepIncreasing efficiency and effectiveness is central to PowerHealth’s vision. The systems we create play a role in this, but also critical is ensuring good personal health and well-being. It is not surprising to read that, "There's a link between good sleep and our waking success," lead study investigator Rebecca Robbins, post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health has reported. Robbins and her colleagues combed through 8,000 websites to discover what people thought they knew about healthy sleep habits and then presented those beliefs to a hand-picked team of sleep medicine experts. They determined which were myths and then ranked them by degree of falsehood and importance to health. CNN have summarised the 10 assumptions we make about our sleep which may impact our ability to function at our best during the day, not to be sick and to be mentally strong. PowerHealth NewsPPM Victorian Benchmarking ModuleIn response to strong interest at the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Annual Conference and the Victorian Clinic Costing User Group, PowerHealth has created a peer review module for PowerPerformance Manager (PPM). Currently, peer review data is available following submission to the Victorian Cost Data Collection (VCDC) but results are only released annually, a significant period of time after the financial period. The PPM Victorian Benchmarking Module (VBM) standardises costing data from each participating hospital, transmits data to PowerHealth for amalgamation and imports anonymised data from each participating hospital. Close to 20 hospitals are currently involved in the Victorian Benchmarking Module, with results already realising a range of tangible benefits. Find out more > In-Premises Wayfinding – the Market AdvantagesDigital transformation is fast becoming a vital part of business initiatives across all industries. It needs to be embraced in order to survive, and when considered appropriately, creates the opportunity to thrive. Just like GPS, in-premises digital wayfinding is becoming the new norm. People will no longer accept that getting lost within the corridors of a large hospital, or any large building, is an acceptable experience. As a 2018 Gartner report concurs, “Wayfinding of any generational level should no longer be considered nice to have.” We’ve collated research and insights into the digital expectations of consumers and healthcare professionals to share why healthcare organisations should consider placing a priority on building their wayfinding capability. Streamlined Reporting with PPMJust as all our public hospitals contribute annual cost and activity data to the National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC), so do a number of our private hospital clients. In addition to our existing PPM clients who will create their own submissions, the PPM consulting team will produce the costing results for several other private health organisations, covering a total of approximately one million encounters. PowerHealth has developed a reporting framework to streamline the preparation, audit and transfer of the required files, just as we have for other state and other reporting groups, such as Health Roundtable (HRT) and Women's & Children's Healthcare Australasia (WCHA). ISO 9001 Re-certification Audit AchievedWe are delighted to report that we successfully achieved our ISO 9001:2015 Re-certification last month. PowerHealth has been ISO 9001 accredited since 2000. ISO 9001 is part of the ISO 9000 group of standards and the only one that defines requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS).One of the main requirements of ISO 9001 is ‘continual improvement’, which refers to continuously tracking and improving an organisation’s products, processes, services and satisfaction levels, among others. It also requires the continuous improvement of the QMS that the organisation has implemented. PowerHealth CommunityBuilding Our PowerHealth International RelationshipsIn May the PowerHealth Adelaide team welcomed several members of the Quebec team to Australia: Dr Pierre Gagne, May Lissa Ollivier, Andre Loiselle, Karine Tourigny and Annie Flesch. Pierre, May Lissa and Andre presented at our User Conference sharing their experiences and key lessons learned from the PowerHealth Canada Project. Karine and Annie attended our conference as well as experiencing life in the Adelaide office for a few days. It was invaluable to discuss current projects face-to-face rather than the usual emails from over 17,000 kilometres away! The Adelaide team took advantage of our Canadian colleagues' visit to enjoy and show off the beautiful world class Adelaide Hills wine region. There’s nothing quite like a crisp white in breath-taking surrounds on a balmy Autumn day. Dr Pierre Gagne (Canada) presenting at the 2019 User Conference Karine Tourigny (Canada) and Debbie Thomas (Australia) working together in the Adelaide office Members of the Australian and Canadian teams enjoying the Adelaide Hills wine region Supporting Grand défi Pierre LavoieWe’re delighted to be supporting our colleague Pierre Gagne (PowerSanté) and his team with a donation to the 1000 KM cycling challenge: Grand défi Pierre Lavoie (The Great Pierre Lavoie Challenge). The 1,000 KM event is the ‘adult’ component of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, a spectacular cycling marathon that brings together 1,000 cyclists who ride in relay behind Pierre Lavoie along the route; Pierre cycles the entire 70-hour circuit from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean to Montreal. But this challenge is more than just an athletic feat for Pierre; above all, it is a forum to raise awareness of the importance of changing our life habits to ensure the future of our children. All proceeds are donated to the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie Foundation to support medical research on orphan diseases, and to fund projects that promote healthy life habits. A very worthy cause that PowerHealth is proud to support.
