Mark Beaumont is officially your new Rector

Mark Beaumont was officially installed as University Rector on Monday, with an official ceremony in the Chaplaincy Centre followed by a reception at DUSA and the student 'drag' around Dundee pubs.

Cash Office - Staff Training (Closure)

The Cash Office will be closed on Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, and Friday 6 May for staff training.

University of Dundee Nursery has vacancies available

The University Nursery offers discounted rates for University staff and students but anyone can apply, so spread the word around your family and friends! The Nursery was recently refurbished and now accommodates children from birth and pre-school children up to five years old - current vacancies are available for children from two years old. Visit the Nursery website or email the manager, Jacky Jones, for more details.

University tops more polls

The University has been topping the polls again! We're up seven places in The Complete University Guide to 35th, and best in the UK for Forensic Science. In addition, we were up 58 places in the What Uni Student Choice Awards to 26th place, with DUSA | The Union scooping 7th place in the student union category.

School of Dentistry students fed up with Wikipedia entry

Students and staff in the School of Dentistry have taken it upon themselves to improve the standard of dental information available online, particularly in relation to Wikipedia. 

They were so disappointed by the inaccurate and incomplete material available that they're now volunteering their time to edit, add, or update dentistry content on the Wiki entry.

Open Days 2016 - who could you invite?

Is your younger sibling in S4/5 or Year 11/12?

The main University Open Days are Monday 29 August and Saturday 24 September 2016. It’s a great chance for prospective students to visit the University, to meet staff and students, and take part in tours, workshops and talks covering all aspects of student life in Dundee.

Who could you invite? Online bookings are now open.

Athena Swan Drop In Sessions (28 & 29 Apr)

The University's Athena SWAN Coordinator, Jane Illes, is holding drop-in sessions on 28 and 29 April for staff and students. It's a chance to raise matters which you would like to see addressed as part of the ongoing Athena SWAN initiatives, or to just talk informally about issues that have affected you. DUSA Debates: Dundee West & the EU (28 Apr & 6 May)

Want to know who your Dundee West candidates are? Each candidate is running to be your representative in the Scottish Parliment, so DUSA is offering the chance to hear from and question them on their policies with an event on 28 April. More info.

DUSA is hosting an EU Debate on 6 May ahead of the European referendum, with guests including Braden Davy (the Assistant Director of Vote Leave), Vonnie Sandlan (NUS Scotland President) and Prof Sir Pete Downes (Principal & Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee). More info.

Pre-Graduation Official Photo Opportunity (10 & 11 May)

Make sure you you look your very best in your graduation photos by planning ahead; the University has organised for the official graduation photographers to be on campus from 10am until 4pm on 10 and 11 May (1S01 Dalhousie Building) so you can plan your outfit, hair and make up without the worry of the weather - or missing the start of the garden party! 

This is a drop-in service and no booking is required. You will be able to wear your official gown and hood (at no extra charge). If you have pre-booked photography packages with Ede & Ravenscroft you can bring along your confirmation and have your photgraphs taken. If you haven't pre-booked - don't worry, the same range of packages will be available

5K Fun Run - Botanic Garden (18 May)

Are you taking part in the Botanic Garden 5k Fun Run on Wednesday 18 May? The University's External Relations has entered a team of 10. Run on your own or in a group, or just cheer them on in the beautiful surroundings!

Register at 6.45pm on the day, for a 7pm start. Entry fee £5 per runner, which will be donated to the Dundee Botanic Garden Endowment Trust

When the Future Was About Fracking Closing Lecture (18 May)

The exhibition 'When the Future Was About Fracking' is on show throughout the month of May, at Centrespace, Visual Research Centre (DCA). There will be a closing performance lecture on Wednesday 18 May at 5.00pm by Artist duo HeHe.

Do you have younger siblings to help with a diabetes study?

Do you have a brother or sister aged 5-16 who can help with a new clinical study on how to prevent type 1 diabetes? With support from the University of Dundee, the new study evaluates a new hypothesis that an inexpensive drug with a simple treatment regimen can prevent type 1 diabetes. Read the full story.

Student Ambassadors for Freshers' Week

The University is recruiting student ambassadors!

Welcome Ambassadors/Greeters: To provide a first point of contact and welcome for new students arriving in Dundee on 3 and 4 September.

Student Services Ambassadors: To assist Student Services staff during Welcome Week on a flexible basis between Monday 5 and Friday 9 September 2016.

Details and further information about these casual vacancies are available on the University Jobshop. The closing date for applications is Monday 15 May 2016. Further enquiries relating to these positions can be sent by email to Joan Muszynski, Student Services.

Psychology student studies

Psychology student Jaime Benjamin requests help with two studies:

  • "In life, we are often faced with a choices, and romance is no different. "Should I choose Person A, or should I choose Person B?". This study examines how we make these choices, and what qualities are most important when we are looking for a partner." Complete the survey.
  • "The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of certain characteristics in a potential partner or coworker. We know that some partner characteristics to be essential, while some are desirable but less important. This will help us to better understand the complicated nature of interpersonal relationships." Complete the survey.
Campus Green
Help your new students before you leave!

Sanctuary Students in conjunction with the University Student Support Team operate a recycle and reuse campaign each year which allows departing residents to recycle any unwanted (but in good condition) goods which will then be available to new students in September to reuse.

The campaign will be launched on Tuesday 3 May and runs until 6 June. For more information contact Pat Michie
