Meeting Partners Online Associated with Risky Sex
People who meet sex partners online might be more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors, experts report in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Their study involved 9,575 Swedish men and women (aged 16 to 84) who completed a questionnaire.
Seven percent of the women and 11% of the men said they had found sex partners online.
The researchers found associations between meeting partners online and unsafe sexual behaviors, including condomless sex, being tested for or diagnosed with a sexually-transmitted infection, paying for sex, and receiving payment for sex.
