Did You Know?

Did you know that LYNX has teamed up with local colleges and universities to help provide more students with access to the Orlando community? This means that UCF Students, faculty, and staff can now ride all LYNX routes at no cost with a valid UCF-issued ID card. This includes the KnightLYNX routes, 210 and 212. What's more, this partnership will continue to enhance the university's sustainability initiatives and encourage use of alternative transportation. Now you know.

College of Sciences  AlumKnights Awards and NSC Hall of Fame Induction - March 1

Please join NSC and COS in an evening of celebration and networking on Thursday, March 1. The NSC Hall of Fame Induction will be held at 5 p.m. at the UCF Recreation and Wellness Center boardroom. The UCF College of Sciences Outstanding AlumKnights Awards reception will take place at 6 p.m. at UCF Ferrell Auditorium and will include cocktails and a dinner buffet provided by Red Cypress Brewery and Tim Webber Events. Guests must register and are encouraged to donate to the UCF College of Sciences Dean's Excellence Fund, a multi-use support fund for student scholarships, college programs and other initiatives.

Provost Forum on Student Success
- Feb. 7

Faculty and staff are invited to join Provost Dale Whittaker for a series of forums to explore UCF’s Collective Impact Strategic Plan and key issues in higher education as they relate to future of UCF. The next forum will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in the Morgridge International Reading Center, Global Communications Room (GCR). It will revisit the school's progress on metrics related to student success and discuss new initiatives to help the university reach it's collective goals.

 
 
 

Double Deductions Begin for 9-Month Faculty 

All 9-month faculty members who are enrolled in insurance (health, life, dental, and supplemental plans) will have double-deductions taken from their paychecks during the spring months. Double deductions began with the first paycheck of the month on Feb. 2, 2018 and will end on May 11, 2018. Double-deductions are necessary to pre-pay premiums for the months of June, July, August and September. Regular deductions will resume with the first paycheck in September on Sept. 14, 2018.

President's Leadership Council Applications Available
- Due Feb. 19

The time has come to select members for the 2018-2019 President's Leadership Council. Council members serve as official student ambassadors at special events both on and off campus. In addition, PLC members receive a stipend for each semester of service. Applications are now available in the Office of Constituent Relations, Millican Hall, Suite 396.  Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.

 
 
 

Leadership Week 2018 
- Feb. 19 - 23

Leadership week, sponsored by the LEAD Scholars Academy, will begin on Monday, Feb. 19. Leadership Week is a week filled with exciting guest speakers, leadership workshops and educational activities designed to  develop leadership and inspire social change on our campus and in the community. UCF Annual Law School Forum
- Feb. 8

UCF’s Law School Forum presented by UCF’s Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity will take place from
10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8 in the Pegasus Ballroom. This free large scale tabling event will host law schools from across the nation, on and off campus legal organizations, and LSAT Prep Courses. Phi Alpha Delta highly encourages students interested in attending law school to attend.

 
 
 

Showcase of Undergraduate Research Applications Due
- Feb. 9

The 15th Annual Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence will take place on Thursday, Apr. 5, 2018. It is a valuable opportunity for undergraduates to present their research and creative projects to the UCF community - and earn scholarships for top projects. Please encourage students who are collaborating with faculty on research and creative projects across all disciplines and in all stages of development to apply. Students who would like to participate must apply by 1 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2018 at www.showcase.ucf.edu.

 
 
 

Mary Robinson (Former President of Ireland) to Speak on Climate Justice 
- Feb. 8

Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland (December 1990 to September 1997), will give a free public presentation titled “Climate Justice” in the Cape Florida Ballroom at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8. This event is sponsored by UCF Global Perspectives, and all are welcome to attend.
