Club Respect - Pass it on

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER 2021

Hello friends,

Anti-racism and inclusion. These are two concepts that must be incorporated into the values of the Collingwood Football Club according to the Do Better report. But there's a catch... it needs to happen 'in a meaningful way'. The report went on to say 'there is a gap between what Collingwood Football Club says it stands for and what it does' (p. 6). It's clear now, if it wasn't before, that club's need to live-and-breath their values.

The report has already had huge consequences for Collingwood and provides important learning opportunities for every professional sports club, in every code, around the country.

Community sports clubs need not miss out. The report has incredibly powerful advice for clubs of all sizes. Club identity is at stake here. Knowing what's acceptable and what's unacceptable. Appreciating the value of each and every club member.

The feature article for this newsletter: Collingwood's 'Do Better' report: 6 practical take-aways for grassroots sports clubs dives into the pivotal steps clubs must take to tackle racism and promote inclusion.

This has to be a genuine effort. Being defensive and combative makes it hard to reach the understandings that matter."
