Becoming...Welcome to Meee Moments #84 This month, we’re exploring a powerful question: Becoming rarely happens in one dramatic moment. More often, it’s shaped quietly, through habits, setbacks, discipline, kindness, resilience, and the decisions we make when nobody’s watching. As Xander Schauffele said of Aaron Rai after his US PGA Championship victory in May:
The image above is of Aaron Rai after winning the US PGA Championship. A moment built on years of unseen effort and humble beginnings. Raised in the Midlands (UK) by parents who made enormous sacrifices to support his dream, Aaron’s journey has never just been about talent. Known for carrying and carefully looking after his own clubs, he’s become admired not only for his golf, but for his humility, gratitude, and grounded nature in a sport often surrounded by status and ego. His story is a reminder that becoming isn’t only about success. It’s about character. About appreciating those who helped shape you. And perhaps that’s true for all of us. Every conversation, every challenge, every response helps shape the person we are becoming. So this month, let’s pause and reflect: Who am I becoming — and are my daily choices helping me become that person?
#69 Lorin LaFave – Let Them Be Children Some stories stop you in your tracks. Not just because of the heartbreak they contain, but because of the courage it takes to keep telling them. This conversation with Lorin LaFave is one of those stories. Lorin is the mother of Breck Bednar, a bright, kind, and talented 14-year-old boy who tragically lost his life after being groomed online by someone pretending to be a trusted friend. What followed could have broken anyone. Instead, Lorin chose to turn unimaginable grief into purpose. Through the Breck Foundation, she now dedicates her life to educating young people, parents, schools, and organisations about online safety, grooming, and the hidden dangers that can exist behind screens and gaming platforms. But this podcast is about more than awareness. It’s about love. Lorin speaks with honesty, compassion, and extraordinary strength about loss, resilience, and why human connection matters now more than ever in a digital world. Her message is simple but powerful: Conversations save lives. Thank you, Lorin, for your bravery, your compassion, and for helping protect future generations through Breck’s legacy. Who Are We Becoming? We recently exhibited and spoke at the The Mental Health and Wellbeing Show in Cardiff, a powerful event attended by thousands of people committed to improving wellbeing, connection, and support for others. Across the day, we met so many incredible people. But we were also deeply moved by the number of conversations around suicide, particularly involving young people. Parents, friends, colleagues, and families shared stories of heartbreak, loss, and lives changed forever. It left us reflecting on something important. Perhaps many people aren’t just struggling with pressure or mental health, perhaps they’re struggling with disconnection. From themselves. From others. From purpose. From belonging. In a world that moves fast, compares constantly, and rarely pauses, it’s easy to lose touch with the beauty of being human, and the importance of feeling part of something bigger than ourselves. Who we become matters. But how we help each other become matters too. Because none of us are meant to carry life alone. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer another person is presence. A conversation. A kind word. A reminder that they matter. If you need help, support, or simply someone to listen, please let us know. We’re in this together. 💛 help@meee.global
Born A Crime...Becoming Through Adversity I recently finished Born a Crime by Trevor Noah, a funny, moving, and deeply human story about identity, resilience, and becoming. Born during apartheid in South Africa to a Black mother and white father, Trevor’s very existence broke the law, hence the title Born a Crime. Yet beneath the humour and extraordinary storytelling is a powerful message about how the people around us, especially those who believe in us, shape who we become. At the heart of the book is his mother, Patricia, whose courage, faith, and determination helped Trevor navigate a world built to divide people. As Trevor writes: “Language brings with it an identity and a culture, or at least the perception of it.” It’s a reminder that becoming isn’t just about where we start, it’s about what we learn, who we listen to, and how we choose to respond to life’s challenges. Funny, honest, heartbreaking, and hopeful, Born a Crime reminds us that even in difficult circumstances, we still have the capacity to grow, adapt, and become something more. We’d love to hear your thoughts:
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Scott Hastings on Sunday 17th May.. For many of us growing up, Scott was more than a rugby player. He was an icon, someone who played the game with passion, toughness, pride, and heart. He always seemed to give everything he had, not just for the shirt, but for the people around him. Earlier this year, we had the privilege of welcoming his son, Corey Hastings, onto the Just Meee podcast for episode #62 — Love Hard. Laugh Hard. Play Hard. Listening back now, those words feel even more meaningful. What stood out most wasn’t just Scott’s sporting legacy, but the love so many people had for him, especially his family. Behind every public figure is a human being whose greatest impact is often felt not in stadiums, but in homes, friendships, dressing rooms, and everyday moments. Perhaps that’s part of what becoming is really about. Not just what we achieve. Our thoughts are with Corey, the Hastings family, and everyone whose life Scott touched. Rest well, Scott. 💛
