Social Innovation Summit 2025
The Student Government Board, in partnership with Stuff You Should Care About (SYSCA), would like to officially invite students in your department to participate in the Social Innovation Summit 2025.
Social Innovation: the process of developing and deploying effective solutions to challenging and often systemic social and environmental issues in support of social progress.
The Social Innovation Summit is a research conference that promotes and advances diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through collaborative dialogue, innovation, and scholarly exchange. This conference will bring together students, community leaders, and professionals from universities across the Pittsburgh area to explore creative solutions for social change in all disciplines (STEM, Humanities, etc.).
The summit will include a multitude of events, such as: poster and oral presentations, a speech writing competition, a case study event, speaker events, a debate, and more.
We are now accepting research abstracts for poster and oral competitions in the following categories:

Psychology/Social Science

Other Humanities Fields
In accordance with the theme of the conference, these abstracts can be related to social innovation in Higher Education, but all ideas are welcome!

Research Lab Coordinator, University of Iowa
The Developmental Psychopathology Lab at the University of Iowa (Director: Dr. Isaac Petersen) is looking for a full-time research lab coordinator to assist in research studies examining the mechanisms in the development of externalizing behavior problems (e.g., aggression, conduct problems), self-regulation, and school readiness in young children, with special emphasis on neural mechanisms (EEG/ERP). The lab’s prior four lab coordinators (including the current lab coordinator) have been admitted to Ph.D. programs in Clinical Psychology! Responsibilities include participant recruitment and retention, scheduling, data management and analysis, coordination of research assistants, conducting batteries of neural and behavioral testing with children, and performing other research and administrative tasks as coordinator of the research team. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in
psychology or a related discipline, substantial research or work experience with young children, and experience using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Experience with R is highly desirable but not required. Experience with EEG/ERP is desirable but not required. Experience with computer software such as REDCap and E-Prime is desirable but not required. We are looking for someone who can commit to the position for 2 years. The initial appointment will be for one year beginning in Spring or Summer 2025, with the possibility of renewal for a 2nd year depending on performance and available funding.

Research Assistant, Brown-Affiliated Butler Hospital
Butler Hospital's Psychosocial Research Program is hiring a full-time research assistant for a randomized controlled trial on a mindfulness intervention for individuals with serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia and major mood disorders. The role also includes additional research on transitions of care, suicide prevention, and digital health interventions. This is an in-person position.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field by the position's start. This role is ideal for those aiming for graduate or medical school, with opportunities to publish and present at conferences. Previous research assistants have successfully gained acceptance into top doctoral programs after this position.

Job Description Brown University-affiliated researchers working at Butler Hospital are seeking to hire a research assistant for a grant-funded, mindfulness intervention clinical trial for patients with serious mental illness in outpatient community mental health treatment settings. Responsibilities include recruiting and tracking research participants, screening electronic medical records, managing databases, preparing reports, and conducting
research assessments with psychiatric patients. Additional duties include working with a multidisciplinary team conducting research in a psychiatric hospital setting. Skills using Microsoft Office, SPSS, and REDCap a plus.
Required Education Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field required. Experience with psychology research and/or working with psychiatric patients desirable.

Research Assistant, Anxiety Disorders Center, The Institute of Living
The Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to coordinate projects in psychological and psychiatric research. This is a full-time position with primary responsibilities on multiple studies on the nature and treatment of anxiety- and mood-related disorders. Projects may include psychophysiology, neuroimaging, and/or treatment outcome studies investigating the nature and cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety and related disorders, including suicide prevention. Duties will include participant recruitment, preparation of study materials, collecting study data, and database management. Other responsibilities may include assisting with grant writing, data analysis, and manuscript preparation with opportunities to co-author conference presentations and journal articles. This position requires work on-site at the
Institute of Living.
Qualifications include a BA/BS in psychology or related field. An advanced degree beyond the BA/BS is not needed. Successful candidates will demonstrate a conscientious work style and strong interpersonal skills. This is an excellent entry-level position for a college graduate who is interested in gaining additional research experience before going on to graduate study.

AmeriCorps Opportunity
An AmeriCorps service year opportunity caring for infants and children up to age six who are at risk for abuse and neglect in Houston, TX. Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will serve these vulnerable children throughout a 12-month commitment, living in a private, gated community (at no cost) and receiving a living allowance.
Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will work collaboratively with other AmeriCorps Members in the home to ensure that children’s physical, emotional, and mental needs are met. While the commitment to our organization is only one year, the impact AmeriCorps Members have on the children in their care is lifelong. In turn, the children’s strength, resilience, and love will also make a lifelong impact on them.
