Bars are easy to toss under the pandemic busAt this moment in time, bars, pubs, and other drinking establishments around the globe are being closed by governments to limit the spread of COVID-19. Many of these (mostly) independent businesses will not survive the next coronavirus spike. Bars are often singled out as prime locations for transmission of the new coronavirus while restaurants, coffee shops, gyms, sporting events, and political gatherings avoid the same level of scrutiny. Here, in the U.S. South, drinking establishments are also encumbered with moral judgements that stifle these businesses from being valued as equal and important contributors to our nighttime economy. Even the Supreme Court of the United States believes pew-packed churchgoers to be safer from COVID-19 than bar patrons. So — as the Texas governor's trigger finger itches toward mandatory closure again — what are owner/entrepreneurs, employees, and vendors for Dallas' drinking establishments to do? Let's kick the tires on the pandemic bus during Drinks on the Brink, Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, 4-5 p.m. with host Randall White, president and founder of 24HourDallas.
