The 25x2030 Campaign BeginsThis kickoff event, held by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), marked the first step by family medicine organizations to have 25% of all US medical students choose family medicine by 2030. The meeting included a roster of thought leaders and staff from family medicine organizations who are working to achieve the 25x2030 goal. President-Elect Frederick Chen, MD, MPH and Medical Education Committee Chair Bonnie Jortberg, PhD, RD, CDE joined STFM staff Stacy Brungardt, CAE and Mary Theobald, MBA at the event. The AAFP is compiling ideas from the kickoff meeting into an actionable plan. Blog PostsThe following posts are from Pecha Kucha: A Special Families and Health Blog Series. Family BeliefsAmy Romain, LMSW, ACSW, uses patient stories to showcase how family health beliefs are vital to patient care and calls on educators to teach family physicians to be curious and recognize family health beliefs. Apply to Serve on the 2018 STFM Foundation Board of TrusteesSTFM is now accepting applications for individuals interested in serving on the STFM Foundation Board of Trustees. There is one open position in 2019. Application materials are due December 1. Curtis G. Hames Research AwardThis award honors an individual, who through the course of his or her career, has contributed in a major, outstanding manner to the development of family medicine research. STFM Best Research Paper AwardThe award recognizes the best research paper published in a peer-reviewed journal between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018. The first author must be an STFM member. The winning paper will be presented at the 2019 STFM Annual Spring Conference. New! Discounted Coordinator MembershipSTFM has created a new membership category for coordinators. In the past, coordinators joined as Other Family Medicine Educators and paid a higher membership cost. The new Coordinator membership category allows those vital to the administration of family medicine to join at nearly half the cost that they did in the past with all of the same member benefits as their colleagues. Renew your membership before it expires on December 31. Consider recruiting a fellow faculty member to the STFM family.
