Tracks and Trails Online Hui

Tēnā koutou,

Thank you to those who were able to attend the tracks and trails hui with Shay van der Hurk, DOC Senior Ranger Heritage and Visitors, Coastal Otago District on Thursday 16 February. It was great to have you along.

I’m sorry we didn’t have a chance to address all the questions we had in the chat. I’ve asked DOC if we can repeat another session next year and hopefully we can concentrate on one topic a bit more thoroughly. I have passed on your comments to DOC for it to review and reply.

For those who were unable to make it, we also have a video of the hui.

Listen watch the YouTube video of last week's hui

Note: the YouTube link is unlisted and will be removed mid-April.

As requested, please find attached links to the documents Shay mentioned that may be useful to your trail group:

  • Conservation Act 1987 No 65 (as at 12 April 2022), Public Act Contents – New Zealand Legislation
  • Conservation management strategies (doc.govt.nz)
  • Otago Conservation Management Strategy (doc.govt.nz)
  • Offices by name (doc.govt.nz)
  • Run a project: Get involved (doc.govt.nz)
  • Otago CMS partial review 2022 (doc.govt.nz)
  • Track Standards SNZ HB 8630:2004 :: Standards New Zealand
  • Track construction and maintenance guidelines: Policies and plans (doc.govt.nz)
  • Cycle track service standards: Our procedures and SOPS (doc.govt.nz)

We will definitely invite DOC back for another presentation the future so you will get another opportunity to ask your questions and share your thoughts.

Next invite

Currently we are testing how to simplify sending invites to the hui members that will protect also your privacy. For our May hui, we will send an invite out from Lil Regie. In order to attend and get the Zoom details, you will need to register with your name and email address and it will issue out a "ticket" with all the event details, plus a calendar invite so you can add it to your calendar. It will also automatically send a reminder to you. We will send details of the topic for the hui and invites closer to the date.
