Adelaide Graduate Centre Christmas and New Year opening times

The Graduate Centre will be closed from 12-3pm on Tuesday 17 December for a private function and will break for Christmas on Tuesday 24 December at 12pm, reopening at 9am on Thursday 2 January 2020.

 

Deadlines for Conferral in December 2019 Approaching

To be eligible for conferral at the next available conferral date you must satisfy the conditions by the relevant deadlines as outlined on the ‘Graduating from Adelaide Important Deadlines page.  This includes:

  • Applying for conferral
  • Lodging your final thesis by the specified date to qualify for the award of your degree
  • Completing the Online Exit Survey
  • Resolving any outstanding debts to the University by the listed deadline
  • Checking your application in Access Adelaide and ensuring that the details of the award to be conferred on you are correct, by the Anomalies Deadline
  • Nominating the Graduation Ceremony you wish to attend in Access Adelaide (or record that you wish to receive your testamur in absentia), by the relevant deadline specified in Access Adelaide.
 

Thesis Submissions in December 2019

The Graduate Centre encourages all students intending on submitting their thesis before the end of the year to submit as early as possible and preferably prior to Friday, 15 December. This should enable our team to send theses out for examination prior to the Christmas close down (assuming that examiners have been nominated and all documentation is in order). 

Thesis submissions will not be accepted on the afternoon of Tuesday, 17 December due to a staff event, or on the morning of Tuesday, 24 December.

 

Graduate Centre Staff News

Congratulations to Graduate Centre staff members Clare McCrorey, Admissions Officer and Dr Melanie Hand, CaRST Officer (currently on secondment) for completing the University of Adelaide’s Aspiring Leaders Program on 8 November 2019. This program provides an introduction to leadership for professional staff who have been identified as having leadership potential or who are demonstrating leadership in their current role. Well done to both!

Authorship Policy

Revisions to the University’s Authorship Policy were approved by the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday 6 November. This policy complements the University’s Responsible Conduct of Research Policy, and is consistent with the expectations outlined in the 2018 version of the NHMRC/ARC/Universities Australia Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and its accompanying guide on Authorship. Any staff or students that have completed the Research Integrity and Authorship workshop run through CaRST, or within their Faculty, will need to familiarise themselves with changes in the policy. The policy can be reviewed on the University Policies and Procedures website.

 

Postgraduate Scholarship Opportunities

The Adelaide Graduate Centre maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process. Visit the Postgraduate Scholarships Website regularly for up to date information on current scholarship opportunities.

 

SmartSat CRC Scholarship (applications now open)

The SmartSat CRC is the largest space industry-research collaboration in Australia’s history. The SmartSat CRC invites expressions of interest for higher degrees by research (Masters and PhD) scholarships commencing in 2020. Scholarships are available for Australian residents. Non-residents will be considered, subject to project-specific requirements. Applicants will need to have a First-Class Honours degree or equivalent in a related discipline. Primary Industries AgTech PhD Scholarship (expressions of interest close on 20 November 2019)

The Primary Industries AgTech PhD Scholarship at The University of Adelaide is funded by Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) to support a full time PhD student who is undertaking research in a topic that will aid or improve primary industry production or profitability through the application of technology. Full details available on the scholarships website.

 

Playford Trust PhD Scholarships (applications close on 17 January 2020)

Each year the Playford Trust offers two PhD scholarships for students planning to carry out research in its priority areas. The scholarships are intended to supplement an existing Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend Scholarship (RTPS) or similar institutional PhD stipend scholarship. Full details, including the priority areas, eligibility criteria, and the application process, are available on the scholarships website.

 

Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship to Harvard 2020- 2021

Knox Fellowships include:

  • Tuition fees
  • Health insurance fees
  • Stipend (cover living expenses of a single fellow for a ten-month academic year)

Applicants must also apply for and gain admission to one of the graduate or professional schools at Harvard University as full-time degree students. Admission applications must be submitted to the appropriate school according to the school’s deadlines. The awarding of a fellowship is contingent upon the applicant gaining admission to the school of choice, but does not guarantee a fellowship award.  Further information, application forms, eligibility criteria, available at Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship webpage.

Lodging applications: Applications (preferably typewritten or neatly hand-written) must be submitted to the Adelaide Graduate Centre on the prescribed form with all requested attachments, two confidential letters of recommendation by the internal closing date of Friday 10 January 2020.

 

University Library Prizes and Fellowships (applications close on 27 February 2020)

The University of Adelaide Library offers the opportunity for research students to receive financial and scholarly support during their studies, with an emphasis on utilising our collections and services.  Applications for the following are now open:

  • The Bill Cowan Barr Smith Library Fellowship:  Provide financial assistance up to a value determined annually by the donor and the University (usually around $12,000) towards study for postgraduate degrees by research using the collections of the Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide.
  • Hugh Martin Weir Prize: The Prize is open to University of Adelaide students enrolled in an Honours thesis program or a postgraduate program by coursework or by research, either commencing or already in progress. Postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply within three years of a doctoral award.

As a Postgraduate Student you are also eligible for assistance from the Disability Service if you have a disability or ongoing medical condition. Information about the nature of your disability is not disclosed – information obtained from you about the functional impact of the disability is shared with academic staff solely for the purpose of assisting you with your studies. Details relating to the Disability Service and the on line registration process can be found on the Disability website.
