Holidays & Observances 7/26: National Disability Independence Day July 26th is recognized as National Disability Independence Day to honor the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (July 26th, 1990). OP Graduation Ceremony Recap Thank you to everyone who made our virtual 2020 OP Graduation Ceremony a success! On the evening of June 17th, over 70 OP Mentors, staff, students and supporters gathered to celebrate the OP Class of 2020. Some of our graduation highlights included speeches from OP Mentor Randy Shandobil, OP Mentor Dwayne Aikens, Jr., and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, as well as special messages from Governor Gavin Newsom and members of the Golden State Warriors. A special thank you to our very own OP Mentor Program Manager Diana Biondo, OP Mentor Elaine Leitner and OP Board Vice President Susan Stutzman for helping to organize this amazing celebration. July Required Mentor-Scholar Summer Activity For 2020 Mentors only - You will be receiving the July Mentor-Scholar activity via email this afternoon. This activity is the second of 3 required summer activities for 2020 Mentors and Scholars to complete together. This activity includes 3 sections: Prework (Article & Brainstorm ~ 15 min); Main Activity (Student Resume-Building ~ 60 min); and Feedback Form (5 min). The July Activity and Feedback Form are due by July 31st, at 11:59 pm. Email mentors@oaklandpromise.org with any questions. 2020 First-Year Workshops For 2020 Mentors only - Don't forget to sign up for one of the 3 remaining First-Year Workshops taking place in July. To focus on career development and to help build your Mentor-Scholar relationship, we have designed an activity for you and your Scholar to participate in together. The activity has 2 parts: The Prework (Article & Brainstorm ~ 15 min) and the Main Activity (Mentor-Scholar Student Resume-Building ~ 60 min). We strongly recommend that you and your Scholar use this activity as an opportunity discuss future goals, as well as upcoming job and internship opportunities that they are interested in.
