This week, 10-16 May, we celebrate New Zealand Sign Language Week. It is an opportunity for the sign language community to showcase it as an official language of New Zealand and to provide an occasion for people to learn sign language. Here is a short video to learn the alphabet in sign language.
The definition of...
hook
A grave ailment. The only hope is to go to a clinic to be cured! There they will tell you not to let your elbow drift, not to turn your wrist on delivery, not to have your feet too far apart and to make sure your arm is absolutely parallel on the back swing. However the complaint, like smoking, is delivish hard to cure. Next up you'll be hooking like Ian Botham at Lord's.

The champ of champ events are just that - it's club champions competing against club champions. So, the quality of bowling did not disappoint. The Women's final was a tight head-to-head battle right to the 18th end. Paris and Olivia got a nose in front, requiring Judy and Jenny to score a three or better to win - it wasn't to be for Glen Eden, New Lynn takes the title 15-13.
Winners Paris Baker & Olivia Bloomfield, New Lynn with runners up Judy Raill & Jenny Tough, Glen Eden
The Men's pair from Carlton Cornwall, Lief and James had their eye in from the get-go putting John and Warwick from Blockhouse Bay into defense mode. The Blockhouse Bay boys had their moments, they just couldn't catch a break and convert their shots into points. Unable to halt James and Lief, the Carlton Cornwall pair win 24-6. Congratulations to our two new Champ of Champ Pairs!
Winners Lief Selby & James Williams, Carlton Cornwall with runners up Warwick Frederikson & John Geaney, Blockhouse Bay
1-5 Mercedes regional tournament
Date: 7-8 May
With the manager, the coach, the club president and supporters in tow, Glen Eden's 1-5 Year Interclub winners were going to make the most of their trip north. They were off to Hikurangi to represent the Auckland region in the Mercedes Cup 1-5 Year Interclub 6s. Hikurangi's club barman and greenkeeper lives across the road from the club. On seeing the group arrive at the club he wandered over asking “what’s going on here?” Introductions done, out came the mats, the jacks, the bowls and the bar was opened! The team was getting a feel of the green and Northland’s wonderful hospitality! Five regions; Counties Manukau, Far North, Auckland, North Harbour and
Northland competed on an overcast yet cool day. All regions started off with a hiss and roar. Glen Eden steadily progressed through the day with good results - the regions were pretty much evenly matched. Glen Eden was first equal on points, but the net differential changed that. Counties Manukau won with 11, North Harbour second with 4, and Auckland third with 2. Well done Glen Eden, no new trophy to add to the cabinet this time, but you’ve returned having made many new friends and a lot of great memories.
