Vol 32 ǀ No. 30 ǀ 25 September 2019
It is easy to become a stereotype. We often lump people into boxes: the jock, the clown, the nerd, the geek and so on. We sometimes then let ourselves become the stereotype of what others accuse us of because it is comfortable. The risk with stereotypes is that we do not always know everything about the people that we place in their respective boxes. I remember someone remarking once when they saw a picture of me waterskiing that they didn’t think that I would do that, or that that was “me”. It is sometimes nice to surprise people!

Term 3 has come and gone in no time at all. As is the case with so much that happens at the College, so much excellent work has been done within the Junior School this term with a minimum of fuss and maximum effort and school pride.
" Overall, the EREA Teaching and Learning Conference was an enjoyable time that celebrated education and encouraged us to take action and to help those who are marginalised. "

Approaching the mid-point of Semester Two, teaching staff will be provided the opportunity this week to provide feedback to the respective Year Coordinators on students who are consistently engaging in disrespectful behaviour and disrupting the learning environment. Those students identified on multiple occasions will be interviewed by the respective Year Coordinators; parents/caregivers will be notified if this action is to take place and will be given the opportunity to attend the meeting in Term 4.
EREA LIBERATING EDUCATION CONFERENCE
This year, the EREA held its inaugural national Liberating Education Conference in Sydney from 11 – 13 October. The conference was entitled “Creating Alternative Futures” and was attended by Teaching and Learning Coordinators, Identity Leaders and Deputy Principals from EREA schools around the nation and neighbouring countries. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to meet or catch up with fellow Edmund Rice educators and also an important chance to think, reflect and learn about developments in education that can support our work now and help us to envisage and plan for a purposeful and liberating education into the future.

JUNIOR SCHOOL
SPORT REPORT
It was great to see all the boys in the summer teams participate in their first training session in readiness for Term 4. There was a real sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. I am looking forward to seeing how all the teams progress through Term 4.
" I encourage all of our boys to step outside of the character they think others have carved for them or they indeed have limited themselves by and to give something new a try. "
