SAAS now open for 2017 funding applications

SAAS are delighted to launch a new SAAS Account, allowing students to manage their applications from their mobile and desktop devices in one portal. Find out more information about the new account and how to apply online.


 

£40k partnership fund to address Global Challenges

The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) supports research which addresses the challenges of Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC). The University has established a £40k pump-priming fund to help initiate collaborations that could enhance applications to the upcoming GCRF calls. If your research has the potential to address Global Challenges of LMIC, you can apply for up to £5,000.

MCAA Scotland bursary for public engagement

Marie Curie Alumni Association Scotland are offering a small bursary for public engagement which is open to all students and researchers in Scotland. Find out more info about the bursary.


 

The Big PAMIS Picnic Recipe Book

PAMIS are hosting their first Big PAMIS picnic in May. As part of this they will be launching the PAMIS Picnic Recipe Book. If you have any ‘picnic’ recipes to share you can download the recipe template and submit it for consideration.

Mental health nurse shortlisted for prestigious award

Third-year student Kirsty Killiard has been nominated for the national Andrew Parker Student Nurse Award. Kirsty is the only mental health nurse from Scotland to be shortlisted for the award. Read the full story.

Our Social Media 

It's been a busy couple of weeks on social media for the Comms team, especially on Snapchat. We featured DeeCon taking over city campus with its range of cosplay, artists and gaming, and a queue running down to the library. Student Sarah took the dundeeuni Snapchat on a tour of Oklahoma University, where she is doing her study abroad, even taking in an American Football game. And we kicked off #NationalGardeningWeek with a trip to our Botanic Garden.

CASTLE Academic Skills tutors are offering another opportunity to drop-in to the Main Library CASTLE zone to discuss exam strategies and last minute revision techniques between 12 and 2pm daily next week - April 24th to 28th. For all other queries, including writing under exam conditions and preparing exam answers, please request an appointment.

Are you a first year student? Would you like to share your experience of Welcome Week? Internal Comms are looking for students to take part in a series of focus groups looking at your experience of last year's Welcome Week. Dundee Telders Team needs your support!

Four final year undergraduate law students: Ruby Davies, Christiane Schleich, Christie Allan and Blythe Petrie, have been selected to represent the University of Dundee and Scotland in the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition 2017.

In order to enter the competition, they need to fund their travel and accomodation costs as well as the entry fee. If you are able to support the team, or just want to find out more, please visit their gofundme page.


 

The Safer Prescribing of Opioids Tool (SPOT)

SPOT –  Safer Prescribing of Opioids Tool.   A novel application that can be used on a range of mobile devices to calculate painkiller dosages. SPOT are looking for medical and non-medical prescribers throughout Tayside working in the palliative care setting. Find out more about SPOT and how to get involved.


 

Investigation of correspondence between the lips and the dentition

This study is part of a PhD research project, research work that involves measuring the lips and the front teeth, which in turn will improve the accuracy of forensic facial approximation methods. Volunteers are required to have a few measurements taken of their lips and teeth,  and three pictures will be taken, which will require 10 minutes of your time.

Trekkers are taking part in this year’s Kiltwalk (Sun 20 Aug)

TICR Trekkers are taking part in this year’s Kiltwalk on behalf of the TICR Appeal (The Institute of Cardiovascular Research), hoping to raise funds and awareness in the fight against heart disease, leg artery disease and stroke. You can donate at Dundee Kiltwalk 2017.

 

 

Neuroimaging study: avoidance in anxiety

Needed, people for an avoidance learning study - looking for people who often feel anxious or worry a lot. The study involves a decision-making task and a brain scan. You will receive £20-30. If you are interested in volunteering contact at avoidancestudy@gmail.com.

  • Most Progressive Club of the Year: Squash.

Dundee University Staff and Postgraduate Cricket Club (DUSCC)

Dundee University Staff and Postgraduate Cricket Club (DUSCC) are seeking new players, of any age / gender / ability, for the 2017 season starting May 3rd.

Power of Social Media

The Power of Social Media

Social media is a powerful thing. It can reunite families, find old university flatmates and even old flames. As part of his current exhibition in the Tower foyer, Graphic Design graduate, Walter Simms, contacted Cara Longmuir from the Corporate Communications team and asked for help tracking down people in the photographs he took over 40 years ago.

In case you missed it, our blog was also the place to find our April Fool's story, the launch of an MSc in Penguin Studies. This was widely shared on social media, with many people disappointed to find out it was a hoax.
