This day in sports history... 1936 — Jack Lovelock of New Zealand runs a world record (3:47.8) to win the gold medal in the 1,500m at the Berlin Olympics. 1984 — American athlete Carl Lewis wins long jump (8.54m), his second of four gold medals at Los Angeles Olympics. 2021 — Lisa Carrington becomes New Zealand’s most decorated Olympian at the Tokyo Olympics.
The definition of
dress...
The rest of the world has gone to ruin in a hideous sea of denim. Tennis players dress like trendies at a beach party. Cricketers turn out in pyjamas. Bowlers remain the last secure stronghold of virgin white! Indeed a group of female bowlers on a bus stop could be a covey of nuns. Although it is said, their conversation in the washroom tends to be slightly different.

There’s a fantastic event coming up at the end of August for young bowlers - we’d love to see as many talented players enter. It’s an ideal opportunity for our younger players to develop their bowling skills and to be able to compete against players of a similar age.

Last year's events were cancelled due to Covid, so it's pleasing to see this year we have a record number of entries for both trophies. They are great events for this enthusiastic group of bowlers. It will be interesting to see how they all get on'. Good luck to all the teams competing. If you have some free time over the weekend, why not head along to support the bowlers!
