BSB Members Unite for Brisbane Baroque Festival

Brisbane Baroque is set to debut on Friday 10 April and run until Saturday 18 April with presenting partner Queensland Performing Arts Centre and a number of supporters, including BSB Members Arts Queensland, Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Queensland!

The festival is the only dedicated baroque music festival in the southern hemisphere, and celebrates an era of unmatched creative energy. After scooping the pool at last year’s Helpmann Awards with an unprecedented five wins, the successful Brisbane Baroque has expanded the 2016 season and this year will showcase international stars - including internationally acclaimed actress Miriam Margoyles - and a host of emerging Australian musicians.

A number of events will be taking place right here in the South Bank precinct at QPAC and Griffith Conservatorium, so make sure you check out the program!

The Connection

SCODY

Name and position?

Bernard Schreiber CEO

Tell us about your business/organisation?
SCODY custom makes clothing to help active people look good, feel good, and perform at their best. Our main markets are schools, clubs, events, charities and employers who support their staff with clothing for physical activity. Our brand is strongest in cycling and triathlon.

We believe that clothing can help people perform better and we believe that clothing can help more people exercise more often. We invest in Research and development.

We help our customers choose and create the right garments for them and most importantly we make it in West End

What is your role at your organisation?
My main role is setting the direction of the business and providing the environment and the support for our staff to get us there.

What are your key skills and responsibilities?
Making clothing that looks good and feels good. My key responsibilities are research and development and managing the testing of our garments by professional athletes

How many people work at your business?
25

What is your favourite place in the precinct?
The river and the cafes. The river front is a truly special part of Brisbane and we use it for exercise and photo shoots. We have such choice for coffee and food. Our two favourites for coffee are next door: Ash and Monti’s and West End park Cafe

What do you want BSB members to know about you or your business?
We manufacture in West End and there is something special about hand made clothing. Manufacturing here gives us an ability to quickly research and develop new garments and designs. It is rewarding to see a concept become real so quickly.

What is something people wouldn’t know about your business?
We are flexible and can custom make one garment in your own unique personal design. You can also personalize garments online by adding text and photos to a standard design. The more you order the cheaper it is.

What has recently happened at your organisation?
We have opened a retail shop in our factory which is open Monday to Friday and Saturday morning. We stock really cool active wear and swim wear as well as our traditional cycling and triathlon.

What have you learnt lately?

Thinking of the business and the ranges like a house renovation: what are we going to keep; chuck; change or add. As a result we are constantly changing and improving the designs and ranges

What do you hope to achieve in your industry?
We want to be the first choice of professional triathletes and cyclists for competition clothing. We want to continue manufacturing and innovating high performance gaments in Australia.

What inspires you?
Exercise, Fashion, and the creation of garments that help athletes go faster and look fantastic

What are your words of wisdom?
Once is a mistake twice is on purpose.
