Energy-Based Devices Not Recommended for Vaginal "Rejuvenation" Procedures
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cautioned women and their doctors against the use of energy-based devices for vaginal "rejuvenation," according to a statement issued in July.
The devices could have side effects like burns, scarring, and pain.
Women seek vaginal rejuvenation for a variety of reasons. Their vagina might be loose after childbirth, or dry and irritated due to menopause. They might feel less sexual sensation or experience pain during intercourse or urination.
“We are deeply concerned women are being harmed,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD in a press announcement.
