When Thuy Ta began her senior year at the University of Minnesota this fall, she knew that there would be some required service learning hours to complete before she graduates next spring with a BS in Sociology.
Thuy already had experience volunteering with Bridging, Fairview Southdale Hospital, Loaves & Fishes, and as a Bloomington Schools K12 math tutor. While she could have gone back to any of those organizations, she chose to volunteer with the school where her mother received her high school diploma last year, and where her father is a current student.
Thuy writes, "Metro South always has a special place in my heart and I would like to volunteer as a way to say thank you for all you have done for my mother and father."
Thuy works with individuals and small groups from Brigid Erickson's morning class. Students identify skills they would like to improve and Thuy is here each Tuesday morning for 3 hours helping students work toward these goals.
Thuy has been accepted to graduate school at the U and will focus on Family, Sex and Gender, and Youth Studies in Immigrant and Refugee Families.
Thank you for spending this time with us Thuy!
