    Coastal water quality monitoring

Our coastal recreational water quality monitoring programme has kicked off for the summer. Popular coastal spots will be regularly tested by our environmental monitoring team to see whether bacteria levels are safe for activities such as swimming and surfing. We then share this data with Land Air Water Aotearoa (LAWA), territorial authorities, and public health officials in our region. You can check the results on LAWA's Can I Swim Here? page.
