Our Lady of Grace Newsletter No Images? Click here Dear Lord, You have brought me to the beginning of a new day. As the world is renewed fresh and clean, so I ask You to renew my heart with Your strength and purpose. Forgive me the errors of yesterday and bless me to walk closer in Your way today. This is the day I begin my life anew; shine through me so that every person I meet may feel Your presence in me. Take my hand, precious Lord for I cannot make it by myself. Amen. TERM 3 WEEK 10 SEPTEMBER 25, 2019 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear Parents and care givers There is much to be grateful for this term and today we gathered as a whole school to celebrate Mass and to thank God for all that we have. The celebration of the Mass at the beginning and end of our term is a fitting way to bookend our school term. The Liturgy is a way of gathering as the OLG community to profess our faith and for it to be nurtured by the Word of God in the Eucharist. The term work in between allows us to demonstrate our faith in our daily work. Respectful relationships, awareness and celebration of beauty in creation, stewardship of our resources as well as genuine concern and compassion for those who are suffering are all ways we live our faith or ‘find God in the everyday’ as the Charism of our Sisters of The Holy Family of Nazareth guides us to do. As parents, you are the first teachers of faith to your children and your connection to your Parish supports your family journey in the faith. We have been fortunate to invite and share with our Parish several celebrations this term such as Father’s Day Breakfast, Grandparent’s Day and Confirmation preparation. Family, parish and school are a mighty combination and I am grateful for the support of our OLG Parishioners and our school families. Commitment Masses and parent/child workshops have been held over the past week. The Commitment Mass is a terrific opportunity for our Year 6 children to meet parishioners and provide them with a prayer card. The parishioner then includes this specific child in their daily prayer. The workshops are an exploration of the meaning of the Sacrament of Confirmation and in particular an exploration of The Gifts of The Holy Spirit. It is very powerful to listen to children explain what gift they see evident in their parents and vice versa. Thank you to the Year 6 teachers and Mrs Clare Broad for facilitating the workshops. Congratulations to our Year 6 Netball team who won their grand final last Saturday. It was a very close game and a tremendous effort from the players, coaches and manager. The support from player’s families and the OLG school family was tremendous. The players were presented with their medals at our Prayer gathering on Monday. We have presented ‘graduation’ certificates to some of our Year 1 and Year 2 students this term. These certificates are in recognition of 20 weeks work in either the Reading Recovery or the Extending Mathematical Understanding programs. Both of these programs require significant effort from students, specially trained teachers and parents. The results of this skilled teaching and hard work are evident when students demonstrate their deeper understanding and skill with either reading or mathematics. Thank you to Mrs Hince and Mrs Allison for their work in these programs. Congratulations to our little readers and mathematicians. Our Performing Arts students have represented our school throughout the term and joined over 22,000 students involved in the Catholic Education Performing Arts Festival. Tomorrow afternoon to celebrate their efforts we are providing a casual opportunity for them to perform to the school. This will be a fitting way to end our term by listening to the dedication and talent of students from Year 1 to Year 6. I would like to acknowledge Mrs Goldie not only for her musical talents but also for her coordination of the Performing Arts in our school. Parents are welcome to join us in the MPA seated and ready to start by 2pm. Holidays are a unique opportunity in education to re-energize, renew and rest, ready for learning in Term 4. I hope you and your children are able to take the time to be with each other over the next two weeks and to find time for the very simple things; beach walks, sleeping in, reading a book out loud, gardening, visiting the free art gallery, catching a train to walk around Fremantle, going to the movies, pyjama days, camping in the back yard etc etc. We are a busy society and a gift we can give our children is our time. I look forward to all our staff taking the holidays to reflect on the tremendous work they have undertaken over the term and to spend precious time with their families. I look forward to greeting you at the gate Monday October 14. God bless Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last week's assembly.
