Director's Message

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is a great opportunity for students to practice and enhance their academic, presentation and research communication skills. We received 66 video submissions that were initially judged by the Faculties. Last week, we saw amazing presentations by the ten finalists who did a fantastic job in explaining their research effectively and excitingly within three minutes, with the additional challenge of a short notice live presentation in front of over 400 people. Very well done everyone!

My warmest congratulations go to Trang Nguyen for winning the competition and Tassia Oswald for taking out both the people’s choice and the student’s choice awards. Best of luck to Trang who will now represent The University of Adelaide at the Asia-Pacific 3MT Competition in October!

Best wishes,
Doreen

Tip of the Month - update your supervisor details!

Prior to completing the Annual Review (or any academic progress milestone), it is recommended that you log into MyAdelaide and review your candidature details including your supervision panel and milestone due dates.

If any supervisor changes are required, please complete and submit a Change of Supervisor Details form and wait for the emailed confirmation by the Graduate Centre that the change has been processed before commencing your Annual Review. This will ensure your Annual Review goes to the correct supervisors for review and approval in the workflow process.

It is particularly important that the email address we have recorded for any external supervisor is correct, as provision of this email address is a prerequisite for the supervisor to log into the online Annual Review of Progress system.

The Annual Review of Progress

The Annual Review due date of 31 October 2021 is fast approaching. We ask that you check your candidature record in MyAdelaide to see whether you are required to complete this milestone.

You will not need to complete an Annual Review if:

1. You are in your first calendar year of candidature (i.e. you started in 2021)
2. You are enrolled in the Faculty of Arts or Sciences and have previously completed or have a Pre-Submission Review due within 3 months of the Annual Review (please check MyAdelaide to confirm your milestone requirements)

Comprehensive information about the Annual Review is available on the Graduate Centre website, including our frequently asked questions and a video of the Annual Review Q and A session held on 14 September 2021. A repeat session will be held on 12 October at 11:30am, with information on how to register to be circulated in the coming weeks.

Pre-Submission Review

There are now different versions of the Pre-Submission Review for students in the Arts and Sciences Faculties. If you are required to complete a Pre-Submission Review, please ensure you download the correct version for your Faculty from the Graduate Centre’s website.

We appreciate that some students may have already begun to complete their review on the previous version (Updated 9 October 2019), so we will continue to accept submissions on the previous form until 31 October 2021.

Postgraduate Scholarship Opportunities

The Adelaide Graduate Centre maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process.

Visit the Postgraduate Scholarships website regularly for up to date information on current scholarship opportunities.

CSIRO Postgraduate Top-Up Scholarships

CSIRO is currently offering Postgraduate Top-Up Scholarships for students enrolled at an Australian University and holding a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship or university equivalent, commencing in late 2021 or early 2022. These scholarships are for PhD projects in CSIRO priority research areas. The students’ research will be co-supervised by CSIRO and university researchers.

The closing date for applications is 1 November 2021. Students must apply via the
Careers webpage - Studentships and Scholarships.

Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships 2022
