A DEEP DISH CHEEEZEBURGER PIZZAChicago’s Town’s first vegan pizza, the Sticky BBQ Jackfruit, became the biggest selling vegan pizza in the UK valued at almost £3m after its launch a year ago. The brand has since launched two additional vegan pizzas, Stuffed Crust Smokey Bac’n & Mushroom, and a Deep Dish ‘Cheeezeburger’. The vegan Deep Dish Cheeezeburger pizza’s crust is filled with burger sauce and generously topped with vegan mince, red onions, tomatoes, gherkins and sprinkled with a mozzarella alternative. The Stuffed Crust Smokey Bac’n & Mushroom contains a tomato sauce-filled crust topped with Gouda and bacon alternatives, red onions and mushrooms. 2. MINTEL'S 2021 FOOD INDUSTRY TRENDSMintel has identified food and drink innovations, value and social commerce as three key trends in the global food service industry. Consumers have a renewed commitment to improve their health, becoming increasingly interested in intuitive and nutritional eating. As markets reopen, consumers will expect quick, hygienic, and more adventurous product options. The focus on value for money will encourage brands to become more transparent about product price by sharing details on ingredients and supply chain. 3. WHOPPER TO THE FUTUREBurger King France has launched a new campaign of what the future might look like. In ‘Whopper to the Future’, Burger King predicts anything from alien invasions to the re-emergence of dinosaurs in centuries to come. The main takeaway is that we don’t know what the future holds, so we should treat ourselves now. French fans can score one of the 100,000 free Whoppers offered exclusively through the Burger King app. 4. CHIPOTLE'S PHILANTHROPIC ENTREEChipotle has teamed up with singer Shawn Mendes' Foundation that supports young innovators in sustainability. The foundation offers “Wonder Grants” to young change makers who lack the resources to carry them out. As part of Chipotle’s new philanthropic effort, they will launch a Shawn Mendes bowl consisting of cilantro-lime cauliflower rice, black beans, chicken, roasted chilli-corn salsa, lettuce and guacamole. For every bowl sold in the U.S. and Canada during the limited time, $1 will be donated to the Shawn Mendes Foundation. 5. DOMINO'S SECRET SAUSAGE SIZZLEIn celebration of Australia Day, Domino's Australia have created a new limited edition ‘Sausage Sizzle’ Pizza. The 'Sausage Sizzle' turns a classic Aussie favourite into a pizza topped with barbecue beef sausage pieces, grilled onion, mozzarella and drizzled with mustard and tomato sauce. The new pizza officially launches on January 25th but customers can order it earlier by uncovering a 'secret menu' on the Domino's app. 6. NEW ON AMERICAN QSR MENUSMarco’s Pizza has launched Build-Your-Own-Pizza Bowls where customers can now enjoy crust-less pizzas baked in a bowl. The new range is suited to customers following a high protein, lower-carb diet. IHOP has added burritos and burrito bowls to its menu with six different builds. This new menu addition meets consumer needs for more portable items that work for take-out and delivery. Luna Grill has altered its popular Modern Greek Chicken Salad Wrap to include cabbage instead of lettuce so that it can travel better. 7. PIZZA HUT ADVANCES DRONE DELIVERYPizza Hut Israel have announced plans to trial drone deliveries come June – but with a twist. Instead of dropping orders directly at customers’ doors, Pizza Hut plans to drop the orders at government-approved landing zones like parking lots or other spacious areas. The delivery driver would then complete the delivery to customer’s homes. Other food service operators have trialed drone deliveries in the past, but Pizza Hut hopes to make them a reality by tweaking technologies and addressing government regulations. 8. MCDONALD'S CURRY MCNUGGETSMcDonald’s has launched their new Katsu Curry McNuggets in the UK and Ireland. This new take on a familiar favourite will be coated in crispy Katsu Curry panko breadcrumbs and served with a Sweet Curry dip. The Katsu Curry McNuggets will only be available for 6 weeks starting at the end of December in a box of six (€2.90), nine (€5.50) or 20 pieces (€7.70). 9. REGIONAL BBQ STYLES EXPLAINEDThe USA is home to a variety of barbecue styles adapted to incorporate local tastes and ingredients. Four of the most popular BBQ styles includes the Carolina's, which is widely known for their pulled pork using a vinegar-based sauce with cracked pepper and cayenne spices. Kansas City’s trademark sauce is a sweet and sticky blend of tomato and molasses. The Memphis region tends to use dry rubs such as paprika, garlic and cayenne on their meats. Lastly, Texas, known as king of BBQ, specialises in beef brisket with inspiration coming from South America by cooking in a pit and serving in tacos.
