Healthy You will be celebrating "dynamic dads" on June 20 at eight local barbershops. His and Hers Barber and Beauty, Styles Unlimited, H Town Barbershop, Squirt and Louie’s Perfect Cut, DJ’s Classic Cuts, Upper Kutz, Cutz by Stalk and Who’s Next Barbershop will offer encouragement and information on issues facing fathers today. 

Residents of Genesis II joined Office Manager Susan Morgan at Bethel Baptist Church to help prepare booklets for a church mission trip. Genesis II is a transitional home for formerly incarcerated women. The women enjoy giving back to their community each month.

By At Risk Coordinator Kris Doss. Recently I started facilitating an Active Relationships class to a group of 12 men at the Herring House. The men in the class were from different parts of the state. The class had many lively personalities which allowed for a lot of discussion of past relationships. One gentleman who stood out was a former resident of Birmingham. He said that the class made him look at himself differently. During the class he understood that to have a healthy relationship you must know who you are first. He and his wife now rent a house here in the Wiregrass and are very optimistic about their future as a married couple. Another thing that came out of the class was helping the participants clearly recognize that they are valuable. This helped because most of the men came from a broken background. Reaffirming their position established hope for their lives and family lives. I now have started a new class with about 11 participants and the number will continue to grow. My hope is that this class will enrich the lives of the men and their families.
