They’re the ones that we put off, avoid or stumble our way through. But it is possible to handle them with greater certainty and confidence – and still get a good result with less emotional turmoil. In this session we will look at how these conversations arise, how they differ from “normal” conversations and how you can use collaborative communication skills to build relationships, reduce conflict, increase learning and improve outcomes. 23 May 2019, 2pm - 4pm, North Terrace. Teaching Sustainability as a Cross-Curriculum Priority: Climate Change Resources for TeachersClimate Change is one of the most significant issues of our times and a key factor affecting the pace of sustainable and equitable development of every country. TROP ICSU is a global project that aims to improve education of climate change by developing teaching tools and lesson plans for educators at the high school and undergraduate levels. The University of Adelaide, in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Water and the Adelaide Botanic High School will host a TROP ICSU professional development workshop for secondary and undergraduate educators of all disciplines. Emotional Intelligence: Understanding Ourselves and Others Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage your emotions and the emotions of others around you, which is key to building successful interpersonal relationships. Emotional Intelligence: Understanding Ourselves and Others gives HDR students the opportunity to understand their own communication style, and develop strategies for working with others. This program is delivered over two 3-hour sessions and includes completion of a behavioural questionnaire prior to the first session. NewsL'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Mentoring Scheme In 2017, the Australian L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science (FWIS) program launched a mentoring scheme, in which the FWIS Alumni (past and present Fellows) will become mentors to passionate and ambitious PhD students. Five mentees will be chosen to take part in the latest program; interested female STEM PhD candidates are encouraged to apply. Applications close 22 May 2019.
